Reardan Weekly
September 22nd, 2024
Reminder: Early Release on November 1
WITH APPRECIATION!
Next week is National Finance Director and Human Resources Appreciation Week, and we would like to take a moment to recognize the incredible hard work and effort that our team of Justin Flaa, Rychelle Wagner, and Kelly Lillengreen put in making Reardan Schools the best district possible! They work tirelessly to ensure we recruit and train the best staff who feel cared for and supported by our HR department. When our staff need anything, they know they can come to Justin, Rychelle and Kelly for help. We’d especially like to recognize their efforts toward improving our district by searching out, applying for, and then managing all of the grants that our district has received in the past few years. We would absolutely not be where we are without this team!

Options Program Update
Options News
This semester the Options Program is offering an in-person high school Physics Aviation class. Teacher, Sarah Neumann, reports this week the students worked as engineers. They used engineering practices to design and develop heavy lift rockets. Heavy lift rockets will help the space program progress by lowering the cost of sending cargo and supplies into space. The student whose rocket could carry the biggest payload "won" the contract!
Enrichment class reminders:
· Continue to drop your child off in the morning at the Commons and not at the portables on Laurel Street regardless if they have eaten breakfast or not.
· Students should be bringing their charged chromebooks with them to class on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
We continue to accept students into the Options Program! Feel free to contact one of our team members at (509)796-2701 ext 5 if you have any questions or would like to enroll in this awesome program!

High School Update
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are excited to share that we’ve had a wonderful start to the school year! Students are settling into their routines, and it has been great to see the energy and enthusiasm in classrooms and around campus.
However, as the year progresses, we are beginning to see an increase in illness among students. As we work to maintain a healthy school environment, we want to remind families of the importance of adequate sleep for students. Ensuring your child gets enough rest each night plays a vital role in supporting their immune system, overall health, and academic performance.
For teenagers, it is recommended that they get 8 to 10 hours of sleep each night. Adequate sleep helps them stay alert, focused, and better equipped to fight off illnesses.
If your student will be absent due to illness or any other reason, please call the school at 509-796-2701 to inform us as soon as possible.
Thank you for your continued support, and please encourage your child to establish healthy sleep habits to stay well throughout the school year!
Sincerely,
JoLynn

Middle School Update
Middle School students are doing a great job so far this year adjusting to our new classroom locations and following expectations. This week we issued access cards to students who have returned the completed and signed Parent Confirmation and Access Card Agreements found on the very last page of our student handbook. Students need their access cards to move between buildings, so please check to be sure your student has theirs. We are handing out more permission slips to students who need them. Once Leo’s has processed our pictures we will add personalized photos w/names to the access cards. Please email Security Officer Brad with any questions regarding access cards: beylar@reardansd.net
Middle School and 9th grade students will be able to access an on-line coaching resource, Clayful, beginning in mid October. Please see the attached flyer for more information. Families who would prefer that their child NOT use the Clayful coaching app can “opt out” by going to clayful.co/consent or emailing Principal Newsum with any questions or concerns: dnewsum@reardansd.net. Students who are 12 and under will need a parent to sign a permission form to allow Clayful coaching. Students will bring those home in early October. Students who have opted out or who have not returned permission slips will still be able to access the journaling and social emotional part of the Clayful site, however, will not be able to connect with a coach. We are excited to be able to offer this resource to students as part of our comprehensive counseling plan.

Students worked on shading in art class this week and are showing excellent progress so far. We will continue to highlight classroom activities each week–please be sure to ask your child what they learned today in school! You will be amazed at their responses. MS ASB is under the guidance of Mrs. O'Rourke, a teacher new to Reardan this year. The ASB Officers, both middle school and high school are going to implement “Fist Bump Fridays” starting this week to improve school culture and connectedness. ASB Officers will be greeting students at all school entrances on Friday mornings and offering fist bumps. We are excited to try this new activity.

Elementary Update
They are here! They are finally here!!!! Our Preschool friends started school this week! It has been a VERY busy week learning how to be a Preschooler. We have been learning to sit at carpet, how to tell Mrs. Heidi and Mrs. Jen our names so we can get breakfast and lunch, and learning how to move though our centers. This group of Preschoolers is amazing and I can't wait for the rest of the year!

We recommend that students bring a labeled water bottle to school each day, as they get thirsty throughout the day. Labeling your child’s name on coats and hoodies also helps us return lost items.
If you are interested in volunteering, our Reardan Partners In Education (P.I.E.) group has the following opportunities:
- October 11: First Popcorn Friday (held on the 2nd Friday of each month)
- October 12: Movie Night in the Commons (held on the 2nd Saturday of each month)
- October 19: Trunk or Treat and Carnival (please contact Amanda Wulff or email reardanpie@gmail.com)
Thank you to all the families who are using the Attendance Line for absences, tardies or change of plans for your children. As a reminder, please speak up when leaving messages as it is often difficult to hear the student's name and their details, which can often result in the message not being recorded as intended. When you call or email the Attendance Line please include your child's first and last name, their grade, and what the issue is.
Ms. Vincent's 4th grade class was testing to see how much weight their tube structures can support.
