A Note from the Leadership Team
Dear Menchaca Families,
We’re just one week away from our Thanksgiving Break! Our break this year is scheduled for November 25 - 29.
Thanksgiving is a time for rest, gratitude, and reflection. Taking this time away from school is essential for our young scholars and families to recharge and reconnect. We are incredibly thankful for our Menchaca community and everything you do to support our school, students, and staff throughout the year.
Don’t forget! You’re invited to the Southside ISD Feast of Giving at Southside High School on November 21st, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Enjoy a free turkey dinner, games, and entertainment with your family and friends. It’s a wonderful way to kick off the holiday season together!
Wishing you all a restful, joyful Thanksgiving holiday!
Warm regards,
MECC Leadership Team

High-Quality PK Program
The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has released the 2023-2024 HQPK Data for Region 20, and we’re thrilled to announce that Menchaca ECC has met ALL of the High-Quality Components for the 2023-2024 school year!
This accomplishment reflects our commitment to providing the best foundation for our young learners. Thank you to our amazing staff, students, and families for making this possible. Together, we soar!
Cardinal Spotlight
Janalyn Torres
We are absolutely thrilled to shine the spotlight on Janalyn Torres as our MECC Staff Cardinal! Mrs. Torres embodies everything we strive for in our school community. Her warm and genuine smile makes every parent, staff member, and visitor feel welcomed and valued from the moment they step through our doors. Her kindness and professionalism set a positive tone for our campus, making her not only a trusted face but also the heart of our front office.
Mrs. Torres’s ability to juggle multiple tasks with grace and efficiency is nothing short of amazing. She is always ready to lend a helping hand, offering support wherever it’s needed with a positive and can do attitude. Her commitment to excellence is evident in everything she does, from assisting staff to answering questions, all while ensuring that our campus runs smoothly.
Mrs. Torres exemplifies dedication, hard work, and an unwavering passion for making a difference in the lives of others. We are truly fortunate to have someone as exceptional as Mrs. Torres representing our school and district. Thank you, Mrs. Torres, for your outstanding service, kindness, and for being a vital part of what makes MECC such a special place!
We Love Our MECC Families
On World Kindness Day our teachers and staff got to take some time to enjoy a drink and snack all because of YOU!
Because of your generosity during our "Stock the Lounge" drive back in September, we are still able to provide weekly treats to all of our staff. Sometimes it's the little things that make the biggest difference. Thank you again for your love and support!
Safety & Security - Southside PD
Exciting news! Southside ISD received a grant for our Police department to ensure the safety and security of all students, staff, and community members. Check-out some of our MECC Cardinals who made an appearance in the video below.
Winner! Winner!
Menchaca Early Childhood Center proudly participated in the Southside ISD Education Foundation's Bingo for Bags fundraiser!
Our team had a fantastic time, and we all walked away winners—not just with prizes, but with the joy of supporting a great cause. The funds raised during this event help the Education Foundation provide grants to teachers, directly benefiting our students and classrooms.
Dismissal Reminder
We understand that unexpected situations or emergencies can arise, which may cause delays. If you're running late, please notify the front office to keep us informed. (210-882-1610)
For our bus riders, please don't forget that it is the parent/guardians' responsibility to be at the bus stop to receive their child. Failure to comply with this district policy could lead to the loss of bus riding privileges. Track your child's bus by clicking here.
Don't Forget the Note
Documentation after an Absence (All Grade Levels)
When a student is absent from school, the student must bring a note signed by the parent that describes the reason for the absence. A phone call from the parent may be accepted, but the district reserves the right to require a written note.
NOTE: Unless the absence is for a statutorily allowed reason under compulsory attendance laws, the district is not required to excuse any absence, even if the parent provides a note explaining the absence.
A student absent for more than 3 consecutive days because of a personal illness must bring a statement from a doctor or health clinic verifying the illness or condition that caused the student’s extended absence from school. Otherwise, the student’s absence may be considered unexcused and, if so, would be considered to be in violation of compulsory attendance laws.
For questions regarding your child's attendance, please contact our PEIMS/Attendance Clerks:
