Principal's Message
Dear CompSci Middle Community,
Despite the chill, we had a good week at school. As I said in my email this morning, today we had an announced lock down drill today. The kids did a good job overall and we were able to identify some things that needed to be addressed. By this I mean there were a couple of doors that needed lock work and one classroom that struggled with following directions, but this is good information to have! It gives us a plan. Please know that the purpose of the drills is only to ensure readiness and not to make it frightening for students or staff. We were impressed with how everyone responded!
Please note that next week there is no school on Monday, in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Please take a moment with your child to talk about his message of nonviolence and peace. As we strive here at school for more equitable opportunities and outcomes for our students, we have to remember that we are standing on his shoulders.
Have a lovely weekend,
Jill Wnuk

Three outstanding students were named the Library Stars at Comp-Sci Middle for December and January! The recipients are eighth-grader Hope Stevens and sixth-graders Lilly-Ann Rattray and Jose Robles Rojas. They have impressed me with their positive attitudes and enthusiasm for reading. Winners are invited to the library this Friday to choose a prize!
TRANSPORTATION STIPEND
January 7, 2025
Re: Parent/Guardian Transportation Stipend Reimbursement
Dear CompSci Middle Families,
The Connecticut State Department of Education’s Regional School Choice Office (RSCO) partners with the Capitol Region Education Council to operate a regional transportation system that serves the Greater Hartford school choice programs.
Generally, interdistrict transportation is available during regular school hours for students in kindergarten through grade 12 who reside in towns within the transportation zone. Non-Hartford resident PK3 and PK4 students and students who reside outside of the transportation zone and do not utilize RSCO transportation services in another town, may be eligible to receive a transportation stipend.
As a parent/guardian, if you feel you are eligible to receive this stipend for the reasons listed below, please click on the link to complete the transportation stipend reimbursement form.
a) You transport your PK3 or PK4 aged student to and from school because transportation is not otherwise provided.
b) You live outside of the transportation zone, and other transportation options have not been set up with RSCO Transportation.

The deadline to submit the 2024-2025 transportation stipend reimbursement form is June 15, 2025. Please consider submitting this form as early as possible. Upon submission, you will receive a confirmation email which we encourage you to keep for your records. Reimbursement to approved families will be mailed in late August.
Should you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact RSCO Transportation at 860-524-4077.
Thank you,
Jill Wnuk

https://kireland.wufoo.com/forms/parentguardian-transportation-reimbursement-form
