Hello Falcon Families!
This week, students are taking the Winter MAP assesssments which is a great way to determine academic growth in English and Math; also, the tests indicate if students are on pace for Spring SCReady exams. As students prepare for next week, please make sure your student gets plenty of rest the night before the tests and eats a good breakfast in the morning. It is important to be on time, too! Finally, have a talk to encourage your student to do his/her best on the test. We will encourage them, as well. We are excited to see the growth that he/she has made this year! Lunch incentives and extra canteen time are the incentives students requested for making growth! These will be held in January!
When students return in January, teachers will send home a report of MAP/Goal progress with report cards with talking points so you can discuss with your student actions that he/she can take to continue to grow and have academic success. On average, students are expected to grow at least 10 points through the year, so we aim to see at least 4-6 points by winter testing. Students can help increase growth through practicing IXL math plans and reading nightly.
We have lots of events this week as we get closer to the end of the quarter and winter holidays! We have several athletic games, academic challenge, and our winter band concert this week! Please come out and support out Falcons!
Last, but not least, students will wrap up the quarter and semester following next week. Please encourage your student to finish strong!

Wednesday 11-- Academic Challenge Team @ Lewisville
Thursday 12– MAP Math; Oakridge vs. Girls BBall @ 5:30; Band Concert
Friday 13–History Challenge 8:30-9:30;
*Student spirit wear days will begin Wednesday, the 18th!

Math Notes
Starting in January, our math department will move to aligned expectations regarding math notebooks! All math classes will utilize composition books in which they take outlined notes and examples. While we know there are great apps and electronic ways to take notes, handwriting notes supports engagement, comprehension, and memory. Students will be able to take the notebooks home, if needed, but they must be responsible for bringing them to class on a daily basis.

The next SIC and PTO meetings will be held Tuesday, January 21, at 5:30 and 6:30 in the Media Center!
