Yearbook and ID Photo Make Up Day: Thursday, Sep. 19, 8:30-11:30 in the MPR: If you did not have your photo taken or receive your ID during registration in August, please be on the lookout for a photo call slip that will tell you when to go to the MPR for a quick headshot that will also be used in the yearbook portrait section. If you do not get a call slip and you know you did not have your photo taken, please go to the MPR during break between 1st and 2nd periods to get the photo taken.
Mexican Independence Day: On September 16, Mexicans around the globe will celebrate the anniversary of the country’s independence from Spain. Often confused with Cinco de Mayo, Mexico’s independence day actually marks the moment in 1810 when Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, a Catholic priest known as Father Hidalgo, made the first cry for independence. This Friday during lunch, we will have decorations and a mariachi band in the quad for students to enjoy along with a staff luncheon to celebrate the historic event. Thank you to Inge Gonzales and all of the families who have generously donated to this event.
Fun Fridays: Every Friday CHS ASB will be hosting fun activities for the student participation during lunch. This week they will be hosting a water balloon toss at lunch in the quad. Bring your lunch and hang out!

September 16–27 is High School Voter Education Week
As parents/guardians and educators, it is important to ensure that students are continually learning to become active and engaged citizens in our democracy. It is never to early to talk to and encourage your student to get involved and start building their pathway to civic engagement, awareness, and voting. Students ages 16–17 can pre-register to vote so they will automatically be registered when they turn 18 years old. Since the California pre-registration program launched in September 2016, nearly 1.2 million students have pre-registered to vote, which accounts for 1,141,476 eligible voters.

CUSD Chromebooks and Device Requirements
Students Using CUSD Devices: Mobile Device Protection Plan for Families with CUSD Chromebooks
If your student has a CUSD issued Chromebook, you are encouraged to review and consider purchasing the OPTIONAL Mobile Device Protection Plan (MDPP) for the 2024-2025 school year. The annual plan is designed to cover accidental damage of CUSD Chromebooks including screen breakage. In addition, the plan will protect against spills, fire, flood, natural disasters, and theft/loss. Mobile hotspots, power cords, cables, and other accessories are not covered. Intentional damage, improper device storage, and misuse are not covered.
The cost of the plan is $30 per device per year. The plan must be purchased annually at the beginning of each school year or at the time of registration to be valid. To maintain coverage, a new plan must also be purchased if a student is provided with a replacement device due to damage/loss of their previous device. This money will be used to create a dedicated pool of funding to replace or repair covered technology. All money collected through the program will go into a special account that can only be used to replace or repair technology that is covered in the plan. We highly recommend this low-cost protection plan. To purchase a Mobile Device Protection Plan for your student, please use the instructions at the following link: Mobile Device Protection Plan Purchase Instructions.
