RAMS Raider's Den for Oct 31, 2024

Thursday, October 31, 2024
Message from RAMS Principal - Heidi George
Dear Roseville Area Middle School Families,
As we approach this yearโs presidential election, we recognize itโs a significant moment for our nation, our communities, and most importantly, our students. During such times, students may have questions, strong emotions, or even concerns. As a district, weโre committed to supporting our students in a way that honors their perspectives, respects differing opinions, and encourages civil discourse.
Hereโs how weโre approaching this:
Open Communication
Teachers will create space for students to express thoughts or feelings about the election. These discussions will be age-appropriate and carefully guided, encouraging respectful listening and open-mindedness.Building Respectful and Inclusive Spaces
Respect is the foundation of our classrooms. Weโll remind students of our shared commitment to treating each other kindly and respectfully, regardless of differing beliefs. This experience is a valuable opportunity to learn and practice empathy, critical thinking, and respect for all voices.Addressing Heightened Emotions
We recognize that emotions may run high for many students. Our staff will be present throughout the school day to provide additional support, encourage reflection, and ensure that every child feels safe and valued.Encouraging Growth and Learning
This election offers a meaningful moment for learning about civic responsibility and the power of our voices. We want our students to know they can make a positive impact in their families, schools, and communities, no matter the outcome.Addressing Challenges Together
Some students may have concerns or questions about the election. Weโll listen to and validate their experiences, provide a supportive environment, and remind them that they are part of a caring school community.
We believe these conversations help our students become compassionate, informed, and engaged citizens. Our focus is not on beliefs but on behavior; we emphasize that regardless of views, we all have a responsibility to treat others with respect, dignity, and kindness.
If you have questions about how weโre approaching these discussions or would like additional resources to support your student at home, please feel free to reach out. Thank you for your partnership as we help our students grow into thoughtful, resilient, and respectful individuals.
Learning for ALL,
Heidi George
๐Raving About RAMS!๐
Day of the Dead
Day of the Dead is a day that remembers our ancestors and our loved ones that have passed. In the Catholic Church it is also known as All Souls Day. In Mexico it is believed that when the Monarch butterflies arrive they are the bring the souls of our loved ones. It is not about being scary or about death, it is about remembering our roots and where we come from. Here at RAMS all the students in their STAR class made butterflies to remember our ancestors and to honor our roots. Students wrote the names of who they want to remember. We also included Kites, in Central America the people there make kites and send a special message to their loved ones who have passed.

Technology Information
Technology enhances student learning and engagement, but it also has the potential to be distracting. If a student struggles using their iPad appropriately in class, teachers will redirect the studentโs behavior. If a student continues to misuse the iPad, the teacher will write a referral and the student will be placed on restriction. A restricted iPad only allows the use of preselected academic websites. If an assignment requires open internet research or to view a teacher-assigned video on YouTube, students can come to the media center to use a computer under supervision to access these resources.
The first violation is a one-month restriction.
The second violation is a three-month restriction.
The third violation is for the remainder of the year.
For more information about behavior expectations and restrictions, see the 1:1 Program Family and Student Guide.
