Dr. Hudson's Weekly Family Message
January 27, 2025

Cedar HIll ISD Families & Community,
Jubilation.
That sums up the atmosphere that was in the air and on the court after the Cedar Hill High School Girls Basketball Team won its first Regional Championship in 15 years.
Players, coaches and fans hugged in the moments following a 57-47 victory over Duncanville on Friday night at Ellis Davis Fieldhouse in Dallas. Tears were shed, and the nets were cut down in celebration, with a lifelong keepsake in hand to represent this giant accomplishment.
The team will face Plano East in the UIL Class 6A, Division I State Semifinals at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Wilkerson-Greines Activity Center in Fort Worth. Tickets are $8. We hope to see everyone there!
Does this milestone victory erase all of the challenges and struggles that we all face on a daily basis? Of course not.
But it reminds us to keep our heads up and believe that tomorrow will be a better day than yesterday.
Over the past 15 years, our Cedar Hill High School Girls Basketball Team has been among the most elite teams in the State. The fact that we shared a district with fellow elites, Duncanville and DeSoto, wasn’t lost on anyone.
We’d knock, knock, knock on that door between 2011 and 2024, and we’d find ourselves ‘oh so close’.
That’s why Friday marked a seminal moment by dethroning the defending (and 12-time) state champions. This path didn’t seem likely just two short weeks ago when Cedar Hill had an uncharacteristic off-night in a 55-34 loss to Duncanville at Milson Gymnasium.
The victory reminds us that regardless of the setback, there’s always a brighter day.
Regardless of what happens this week, the 2024-2025 Cedar Hill High School Girls Basketball Team represents the resiliency and spirit of what it means to be a Longhorn!

Horns Show Up! Attendance at School Matters
Daily student attendance is vital—it not only fuels academic success but also directly impacts school funding. Every day a student is present strengthens their learning journey and ensures our schools have the necessary resources to provide quality education. When students show up, they grow, and our schools thrive!
For the final 2 six weeks periods for the 2024-25 school year, CHISD staff and students will place a greater focus on the importance of daily attendance.
We’re excited to introduce our Horns Show Up daily attendance awareness campaign to emphasize the importance of consistent attendance.
When scholars miss school, they miss valuable instruction, peer collaboration, and critical learning experiences that impact their academic success.
- Chronic absences—missing 10% or more of the school year—can lead to lower grades, difficulty keeping up, and a higher risk of falling behind.
By showing up every day, scholars build strong learning habits, improve academic performance, and set the foundation for a successful future. Let’s work together to ensure every scholar is present, engaged, and ready to learn!
Thank you for supporting Horns Show Up!
