August Teacher of the Month
Congratulations to our RSM Middle/High Teacher of the Month for August, Coach Jay Brannon! Coach Brannon is our very first recipient of the Teacher of the Month gold chain.
One student nomination stated that "Coach Brannon always makes sure I understand before we move to another topic. He wants the best for every student and he creates a fun classroom environment." Another nomination reads" Coach Brannon is a great teacher and always pours his heart into his students and players both in the classroom and on the field."
Special thanks to Scott Saul, RSM alumni, from State Farm in Aiken for helping us celebrate Coach Brannon. Congratulations Coach, this recognition is well deserved!
One % Tax Area 4 Community Meeting
Dr. Murphy, Superintendent, will be hosting a community meeting to discuss the One Cent Sales Tax renewal. Please join us at RSM Middle/High on Monday, September 9th at 6:30 PM.
Rural Health Services (RHS)
Rural Health Services (RHS) has partnered with Aiken County elementary and middle schools to help provide healthcare and dental services during school hours through their school-based health team. Services can be provided to all students regardless of their ability to pay or if they are insured. An RHS School-Based Health Services enrollment form is being sent home, if you are interested in receiving these services for your child, please contact the school directly.
Repeat Information
Academic Support
The following academic supports are available to your child:
After School Tutoring
We will be starting after school tutoring beginning Monday, August 12th. After school tutoring runs from 3:15- 5:00 PM, Monday-Thursday. There is no bus transportation for after school tutoring. After school tutoring provides additional academic support for students (grades 6-12) who are struggling in core content areas (math, English, social studies, science). To sign up for after school tutoring, please email Mr. Shepler directly at mshepler@acpsd.net.
Summative Retake Tickets
For summative assessments (unit tests/projects) students who are not happy with their grade may receive an opportunity for reassessment by completing a "Retake Ticket".
Retake Tickets must be submitted within two weeks of receiving the grade on the original assessment.
Requirements of the "Retake Ticket" must be completed. Teacher discretion may be used for these requirements.
The score on the retake assessment is the final grade received.
Trojan Time
High School- Students receive an additional 20 minutes of class time on the following rotating schedule:
Monday- 1st Block
Tuesday- 2nd Block
Wednesday- 3rd Block
Thursday- 4th Block
Friday- Rotates Weekly
During Trojan Time, students should be using PowerSchool to check their grades, communicate with their Trojan Time teachers about their progress, and use this time to complete work.
Middle School- Students receive an additional 35 minutes of class time for support in math and ELA. Additionally, Trojan Time at the middle school level incorporates goal setting, character education, and club days.
Student ID Requirement
Students will receive five temporary ID badges per semester. Once a student has used all five temporary badges, they will be charged $3 for each new badge issued until the end of the semester.
Beginning Monday, August 5th, our cafeteria staff began scanning student ID badges for lunch. Students without ID badges will still get lunch, however, they will wait until students with badges are served first.
