A Message From the Principal
Dear Parents/Guardians:
At our school, bullying of any kind, by any person, is unacceptable. All students should be free from worries about being bullied. Students who bully others must be taught other, appropriate ways of interacting with peers. This letter aims to provide you with information concerning the Fremont School District 79 anti-bullying program and encourage you to help us identify students who are being bullied.
The School Board policy on bullying begins with this goals statement:
Bullying, intimidation, and harassment diminish a student’s ability to learn and a school’s ability to educate. Preventing students from engaging in these disruptive behaviors is an important District 79 goal.
Bullying is defined as follows:
Bullying means any severe or pervasive physical or verbal act or conduct, including communications made in writing or electronically, directed toward a student that has or can be reasonably predicted to have the effect of one or more of the following:
Placing the student in reasonable fear of harm to the student’s person or property.
Causing a substantially detrimental effect on the student’s physical or mental health.
Substantially interfering with the student’s academic performance.
Substantially interfering with the student’s ability to participate in or benefit from the services, activities, or privileges provided by a school.
Bullying, intimidation, and/or harassment may take various forms, including, without limitation, threats, stalking, physical violence, sexual harassment, theft, public humiliation, destruction of property, or retaliation for asserting or alleging an act of bullying.
Definitions of keywords to assist in identifying bullying:
Grades Pre-K-5
Rude - when someone says or does something and it hurts your feelings, but they didn’t mean to.
Mean - when someone says or does something to you on purpose to hurt your feelings on purpose
Bullying - when someone does something to you on purpose repeatedly to make you feel bad, hurt you, or act like they are going to hurt you.
Grades 6-8
Rude - spontaneous, unplanned, thoughtless, inconsiderate, not meant to actually hurt.
Mean - purposeful, aims to hurt, angry feelings
Bullying -
aggressive - attacks physically, socially, emotionally, or electronically
balance of power - bigger vs. smaller, older vs. younger (elementary);
inequality (middle school)
consistent - it happens more than once over a period of (elementary) repeated acts or threats of aggressive behavior (middle school)
deliberate - there is an intent to hurt or harm
We have asked our school staff members to respond immediately and with compassion to a student who reports bullying or school violence. After evaluating the situation to determine if an immediate referral to the office is needed, a staff member will give the student our form for reporting bullying, 7:180-AP1, E5, Report Form for Bullying. We will inform you whenever your child is involved in a bullying report. Students can also report bullying through two online forms. (FSD79 Student Tip Line and the Lake County Text-a-Tip) All students have been taught about the bullying prevention plan and encouraged to “See Something, Say Something.”
Please inform us if you know of any bullying hot spots in or around our school or if you are aware of a known bully or target of bullying. Finally, we requested our staff members to intervene immediately to stop a bullying incident. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Beth Carmody

Facility Planning Community Forum - Oct. 17
Fremont School District 79 is seeking input from the community as we chart our course for the future. Please join us for a community feedback forum on October 17, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. at Fremont Intermediate School to discuss the draft of the District’s Educational Long-Range Facility Plan (ELFP).
Since January 2024, a representative group of 26 staff and community members have been meeting with administrators and architects to develop a 10- to 20-year vision for Fremont’s campus. This ELFP Steering Committee evaluated existing facilities in relation to the District's:
Educational goals;
Forecasted enrollment growth (up to an additional 1,000 students);
Capital maintenance and improvement needs,
Projected facility demands for the next 10-20 years; and
Financial considerations.
During this session, members of the Steering Committee will present their recommendations for the District’s Educational Long-Range Facility Plan. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions, offer suggestions, and help refine the plan prior to the School Board’s consideration.
Community feedback during the October 17 session will be taken into account before the ELFP is presented to the FSD79 Board of Education at its regular meeting on November 18. We believe that community input is essential to ensure that our plans align with the values and priorities of our residents. To learn more about the ELFP process, please visit our dedicated webpage at:

Students will need to be present for the full day of school on October 18th to attend.
Students cannot attend this dance without a signed parent permission form. Students will not be allowed to leave prior to the end of the dance without parent permission.
Students must have a permission slide to attend. We will have extra copies of permission slips in the main office for students to pick up.
Drills this Week
We have a fire drill scheduled on October 1st. Students will practice how to safely exit the building in the event of a fire.
Early Pick-Up Procedures

A parent/guardian or designated person must present identification to pick a student up early. Please note that the latest pickup time is 2:00 PM on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday and 1:30 PM on Wednesday.
