Letter from the Principal ๐ซ
Dear Corbett Family and Students,
As we pass the midpoint of the school year we are busy planning for next year. Students in grades 9-11 will start the forecasting process on February 10th in their homerooms. Families are invited to a virtual informational session on February 18th, from 6:00-6:45 pm, (see information below for more details).
We highly encourage students to be very thoughtful in selecting their courses for 25-26, as we build our classes based on the number of students who sign up for a course. This means that courses can be full, limiting the opportunity to change courses once the school year begins.
Students who are Juniors or Seniors should consider applying for the MHCC Middle College program. This is an opportunity for students to take courses that lead to a career, advanced coursework, and are not offered at Corbett High School. This is a competitive application process, as we are limited by funding. Students also need to provide their own transportation to MHCC.
Work-based learning is another option for Seniors, allowing them to leave school early and earn elective credit by presenting to the school board. Employers need to complete a short evaluation of the student as well as confirm the hours worked.
One change to note for 25-26 is that the high school will be moving from the trimester system to semesters. Semesters will be 18 weeks long, with progress reports at the 9 week midpoint. The driving factor for this change was the addition of 0.5 credit graduation requirement of Personal Finance and College & Career Readiness for the class of 2027.
Seniors are counting down the weeks to graduation, and will be double checking their transcripts in the coming days ensuring that they have the credits they need to walk across the stage on June 2nd. The Leadership class has been working on a venue and date for the 2025 Prom, and are gearing up for another Communicare fundraiser in the form of a Cornhole Tournament during homeroom. The seniors in the leadership class are setting the tone for future success of student-driven initiatives at Corbett.
