St Joseph's Catholic Primary School
Newsletter 18.10.24
This week...
I owe a huge thank you to our children, families and staff this week! It's been very busy with lots of events throughout school, and I have LOVED seeing everyone pull together as team, even when we are all feeling a little tired (adults too!) as we approach the half term holiday.
You should have received a letter today about the upcoming special Christmas Panto treat! We're very excited here in school, and are pleased we have been able to heavily subsidise the cost of the trip to hopefully make it affordable for families.
Quick reminder that today was our final Celebration Assembly of the half term, as next Friday is a training day and school is closed to children.
Thank you, as always, for supporting us to
Live, love and learn with the Lord.
Mrs Ronicle
Virtue
Our virtue this week continues to be: Citizenship
If your child shows citizenship at home, please let me know, so we can celebrate this in school too.
Settling In Reviews
On Thursday, we held our settling in reviews for parents/carers. Thank you for coming along to support us - we know that our children's education significantly benefits from working together with a strong home-school partnership. If your child is in St Therese, we will contact you when we have organised a new date.
Book Fair!
Thank you for coming along to our book fair in school this week. There were lots of lovely books and stationery items on sale. We must give a big shout out to Sophie, Edward and Lily, who gave up their time after school to man the stall for us!
Road Safety Assembly
Thank you so much to PCSO Joe Spooner, who came into school to deliver a very informative assembly on Road Safety this week. Remember, as the nights get darker earlier, it's important to stay visible with reflective stickers or bike lights!
Kindness Walk
After our Mini Vinnies kindness walk last week, we have received an email and a lovely card from two Tadcaster residents, who wanted to thank us for brightening their days! Well done for sharing kindness and God's love around Tadcaster, Mini Vinnies!
Dogs
Just a reminder that dogs are not permitted on school grounds (even the gorgeous little fluffy ones!). This is for the safety of our children and MUST be adhered to please.
Tad10 Fundraising Run
On Sunday 17th November, Mrs Ronicle (Headteacher) and Laura Cooper (Chair of FoSJ) are running the Tad10!
It's a 10 mile route, that passes our lovely school.
Cake and refreshments will be served outside school, and we hope you will come to cheer us on!
Any donations, however small, will be gratefully received. Funds raised will be split between our Friends of St Joseph's and St Leonard's Hospice.
The hospice holds a special place for us, as two of our families lost their dads last year, and the hospice provided such love and care to both families in a difficult time.
Please have a look at our fundraising page and feel free to make a little donation if you are able.
More importantly, PLEASE come to cheer us on outside school during the run - we'll likely be in need of your support and smiley faces!

Attendance Update
Whole School Attendance this week: 93.09%
This week, our attendance is below National Average.
As you know, we love having our children in school and really hope you can support us in getting them to attend as often as possible.
Wake Up Wednesday
Have a look at this week's information about fire safety:
This week, we have been learning...
St Nicholas Class (Nursery)
Linking in with our focus book, 'Room on the Broom', the children in St Nicholas have enjoyed playing a lotto game! We found the characters from the story and matched them on our cards. We used good concentration and hand eye co-ordination to complete the game!
St Francis Class (Preschool / Reception)
Hairy Maclary (from Donaldson's dairy) has been visiting this week, along with lots of learning about dogs and creative representations of different types of dogs. We have also been playing lots of number games to improve our recognition of numerals and 1-1 correspondence. We decorated biscuits - selecting the correct number of chocolate chips and marshmallows!
St Bernadette Class (Year 1/2)
In guided reading this week, we have been answering prediction and vocabulary questions based on a picture! We came up with a range of great answers and showed super focus to journal our descriptive words.
St Patrick Class (Year 3/4)
In Computing, we have been thinking about the internet and where content comes from. We thought about how some content is unreliable and not true. We then started making our own scams with edited pictures and a false advert to prove how easy it was to lie on the internet.
St Therese Class (Year 5/6)
On Wednesday, St Therese were treated to a whole day of Forest School! Their learning included making popcorn over their own fires, and a team-building and communication game, where children had to create stretchers to carry their 'patients'!
