The Falcon Flyer
May 3, 2024
From the Principal!
I want to start by saying thank you for all the kind words, gifts, love and appreciation shared with me this week for Principal's Day! Wednesday was an extra special day and I am beyond grateful to be able to serve the Fabra Family as principal. Today we got to share the love with our incredible cafeteria staff who go above and beyond to take care of our Falcons. Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week! There aren't enough days in the week to show our entire staff the amount of appreciation they deserve, but we hope you will join us in doing the best we can to shower them with love they all deserve.
Despite the gloomy weather, we had an incredible field day today! There is no way it would have been possible without the support from our PTO and all of the parent volunteers. Thank you all for your time and energy today in making Field Day an incredible day for our students.
We are in the final month of school with a lot of exciting events ahead. Although the end is near, it isn't over yet and attendance is still extremely important. As a campus, we are still climbing towards our 96% goal for the year. Please help set your child up for success by having them here each day for the month of May.
Please read through this newsletter for information regarding upcoming events as well as information and news from the current and upcoming weeks. As always, please reach out to us if we can help in any way. Have a wonderful weekend!

From The PTO!!!
Good afternoon Fabra Families!
We can't believe there are less than 4 weeks left in the school year! Our Fabra teachers & staff have given our falcon students another GREAT year, with several more fun events planned in the final weeks. Our staff is the absolute best, and we appreciate all of the personal time and heart they put into organizing classroom fun, after school clubs and family fun events.
We hope you will join us in showing our entire staff some appreciation during the official "Teacher Appreciation Week" of May 6th - 10th. The Fabra PTO & admin team have some daily treats planned for the week, but we're asking for your help to make it the ultimate appreciation event. See below for different ideas and ways to get involved.
Gift Cards - New Program Link
Do you ever struggle with wanting to do a "little something" for lots of teachers, but know that there are only so many $5 coffee gift cards people can use? This year we are trying out a new program that allows families to gift small amounts across multiple people at the school, then allows the teachers & staff the opportunity to read through their thank you messages and select which store(s) they want for their combined gift card money. Check out the link here before they are delivered to staff on May 10th: https://app.giftcrowd.com/app/join-event/HwSCMx3gpO
Thank you notes!
People often say that handwritten notes are one of the best ways to show appreciation. They are a wonderful way to let people know that they are making an impact in our lives and community. Students (and families) are encouraged to grab a notecard or piece of paper and show your appreciation!
Volunteer - Gift of time!
Fabra PTO is organizing volunteers to help cover Lunch & Recess duty, so that the staff can have some extra time to take advantage of treats (and relax!). Dads, moms, grandparents and other BISD verified volunteers are encouraged to come help out and have fun! News from the Library!
CONGRATULATIONS to this week's "Caught Reading" winners, 5th grader Julisa O'Neal and 1st grader Brooklyn Davis.
LIBRARY LESSONS
In Kindergarten and 1st Grade, we are reading some of my favorite read-alouds. I love to save them for this time of year.
In 2nd Grade, we are reading Sideways Stories from Wayside School. This is one of my favorite read-alouds, and the kids love it as well.
In the 3rd and 4th Grades, we are reviewing text features. This will be our focus for the next couple of weeks. Feel free to ask your kids questions about the index or glossary of a book.
In 5th grade, we are finishing Lawn Boy by Gary Paulsen. A Blooket is coming to see how well they listened and then we are on to review text features.
ALL BOOKS ARE DUE MAY 13TH!
Next week is our last week of book check-out.
OVERDUE OR LOST BOOKS
We have several students with overdue books. Keep an eye out for overdue notices in your child's green folder.
If a book has been lost or is damaged beyond repair, you can pay the replacement cost. We accept cash, and checks (made out to Fabra), or you can pay with a credit card using RevTrak (Fabra website). You can also replace the book with a used hardcover if it is in good or better condition. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions- catherine.lopez@boerneisd.net or 830-357-4214.
LIBRARY LESSONS
I am reading books aloud to all of our students. Please take the time to ask your child about the book they are listening to in the library.
