~ From the Desk of Mr. Moretti ~
Dear Hawley Parents/Guardians, Teachers, and Staff,
Final Week of October- Wow! Halloween Parties, Book Fairs, and Conferences, Oh My!
Buckle up, stay seated, and keep your hands and feet in the car at all times, as you read on to find out What's Happening at Hawley .....
~ Bus Safety Week ~
October 21-25 was National Bus Safety Week. We recognized and celebrated it. 4th Graders made posters. 3rd Graders shared Safety Tips during Morning Announcements. We also made a Bulletin Board for the Bus Drivers. Thank you for reviewing these safety tips with your children.
~ The Book Fair ~
We just held our PTA Book Fair last week. Students get great inexpensive books and the PTA raises money for Hawley School. Thank you to Mr. Sortino for giving up his gym, to all the parents that gave time and volunteered, and to the PTA for their time and efforts.
It was a Terrific Event.
~ Story Walk ~
We are working to create Outdoor Areas for Learning. We are working with our PTA to build an outdoor Learning Classroom (more on that to come). For now, we are unveiling our Hawley Story Walk. As you stroll down our back sidewalk, you can now read and enjoy a Story while strollling. The stories will periodically change.
Thank you to Reading Teacher, Elisabeth Douglass; Library Media Specialist, Erika Carlson; Paraeducators, Alexis Capaldo and Monica Crone; and Lead Teacher, Carla Tischio for all their time and efforts.
~ Veteran's Stars ~
We are preparing for our Big Veteran's Day Assembly. The first step is decorating our foyer with Veteran Stars. They went home to be decorated and returned. They can include a picture of the Veteran, their name, rank and branch of service. Please send them in as soon as possible to make sure they are included on our wall.
If you need another one, please contact our Main Office.
~ Conferences ~
Last week was Parent Teacher Conferences. We shared your child's current levels of performance, their strengths and areas of focus. This is a great time for us to build our connection to benefit students. We thank you for your partnership.
A Hawley Family, the Tecla's, provided dinner for staff on our late night from their place, 123 Pronto, in Trumbull. It was delicious and greatly appreciated.
~Halloween / Costumes~
This year, the staff of Hawley would like to have students wear Halloween Costumes for their Halloween parties. We would like your help in making this fun and safe for all. Please follow these Costume Guidelines:
- Costumes are only being worn for parties so please do not wear them in but have them in a bag to be changed into
- No masks or face coverings
- No blood
- No weapons of any kind
- Any student not wanting to wear a costume may wear Orange and Black or dress as usual.
Although this may create some challenges for you, I am sure that you can understand why we are asking for the above guidelines. Please follow these guidelines so we do not have to take something away from a student or alter a costume to participate.
We THANK YOU for your support;
Please reach out with any questions that you may have.
~Hispanic Heritage Month ~
We are coming out of Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. We read stories, created Bulletin Boards and shared Information spotlighting the Hispanic People and Culture.
~ Important Reminders / General Info ~
- Parents picking up students at the end of the day, please do not start lining up until at least 3:15 PM as a long line develops and it congests the Fire Lane and creates traffic on Church Hill Road.
- Please make sure your child eats something before school and has a SNACK. Some lunches are early and there is an afternoon snack. Some lunches are later in the day and there is a morning snack.
