On behalf of our school staff and Board of Trustees, I want to thank all families of our Masterton Intermediate students for your outstanding aroha, cooperation, kaha, patience, resilience and tautoko during our recent COVID-19 experience. While this was a difficult time for all, we now look forward to providing as much of our MIS curriculum as possible in order to engage our ākonga in their learning.

ĀKONGA PAI

The following examples of students living our ADMIRE values have been extremely heartening:

• On Tuesday, February 15, two Year 7 girls were walking across the netball court outside our staff room. They discovered it on the ground with $145 inside! They handed it into the school office. Not long after doing this, they came across a very upset student who was explaining to Mrs. Jeffries that he had lost his wallet. This boy was very happy and relieved to have the wallet and money returned to him. Our sincere thanks go to Harper Kinahan (Room 11) and Brooklyn Harp (Room 16) for their honesty and kindness.

• I received this email from Mr. Brian Abraham on Thursday evening, February 24:

Hello there!

I would just like to take the time to thank two of your students. They were out collecting for their fun run. They came along to my house and asked very politely if I would like to sponsor them but what really impressed me was they had seen me trying to move a heavy plank of wood and they both said, “Would you like us to move that for you sir?"

I thought that was very kind of them. They also said to me if you would like any other help with anything to let them know. The boy who lives in the area wrote his phone number down so I could ring for a hand which I thought for two young boys was exceptional. I was lost for words. I got both boys’ names. They are Jared Collings and Lucas White, very well mannered young boys.

Thank you Jared and Lucas. MIS and your whānau are very proud of both of you.

I like being in the Room 9 class team for non-stop cricket and making new friends. I also like having challenging work to make it harder so I learn new things.

Mr T lets us play tackle bull rush as long as its supervised by an adult.

I like having a canteen at school and having nice teachers who give us responsibilities.

I have loved my first three weeks at MIS so far. First of all, both of my siblings came before me at this school so I felt comfortable coming on the first day. Class mates were welcoming even though we were all nervous. We got to know each other in a friendly ways through activities and social chats.

There is a huge selection of choices ranging from sports to literature to technology. I like that there was something that everyone would be interested in. Teachers did an amazing job making us feel welcome and certain about what was to come this year.

Overall, this school intrigues me with all of the wonderful activities and opportunities. I look forward to the future here at MIS.

PROTOCOLS FOR PHASE THREE

As we enter Phase 3 of the response to Omicron, only household contacts of confirmed cases are required to self isolate. This will be for 10 days. All other contacts of COVID-positive people are not required to isolate, but they will need to monitor for symptoms. Please keep your child at home if they are feeling unwell.
