MS. MCMULLEN'S CURRICULUM NIGHT REMINDER

SEPTEMBER IS ATTENDANCE AWARENESS MONTH
Attendance Awareness Month continues! Next week is spirit week! We look forward to seeing all of our students show their support for a great cause - being on time and present everyday.
Did you Know?
Attending school daily matters. Students who are chronically absent miss 10% or 18 days of learning time. Students who are never chronically absent are 6.74 times more likely to read on grade level by the end of 3rd grade and 9 times more likely to graduate high school on time! We look forward to partnering with students, families, and caregivers to ensure a successful year!
KILGOUR HONORS HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH ~ SEPTEMBER 15TH - OCTOBER 15TH
From September 15 to October 15, we honor the rich tapestry of Hispanic cultures that have woven their vibrant threads into the fabric of America. This month recognizes the contributions and achievements of Hispanic and Latino Americans throughout history.
Hispanic Heritage Month begins on September 15 because it marks the anniversary of independence for five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Mexico's independence day follows on September 16, and Chile's on September 18.
Cincinnati Public Schools is excited to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month in our schools, neighborhoods and across the city of Cincinnati. We are pleased to share resources for our families to use as an opportunity to explore information and activities with their children all year long.
This Year’s Hispanic Heritage Month Theme, as determined by the U.S. Department of Education, is "Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future Together."
Mr. Houston will incorporate the theme into his morning announcements and our daily mindful music.
Each grade level will decide how to incorporate Hispanic Heritage month activities into their classrooms. Some ideas include reading books that celebrate Hispanic heritage and creating traditional art and crafts.

You can also Venmo a donation to @kilgourpta noting it is for Class Creations.
Two silent auction raffles: Back by popular demand the rare bourbon basket, and new this year an FC Cincinnati suite package. Details and how to buy tickets will be available soon.
We’re still accepting donations to the auction – submit details here.

SIGN UP TO BE INCLUDED IN THE KILGOUR SCHOOL-WIDE ELECTRONIC DIRECTORY
Hello Kilgour Community! We are creating separate grade-level electronic directories to facilitate communication for non-school related events and activities, such as playdates, birthday parties, etc. After the "due date", a link and PDF for each grade-level directory will be shared with folks who opted in.
Important: If you have multiple Kilgour students and are opting in, please fill out one form for each student.
Because this directory is being implemented by fellow parent volunteers, please help us out by doing the following:
- Input each child just one time. This makes cleaning up the excel files less time consuming.
- Enter all information exactly as you'd like it to appear. We will not be able to review all entries and correct typos.
- Understand that the September 13th deadline is firm.
Due Date Extended: September 13th
Click ---> I WANT TO BE IN THE DIRECTORY
Thank you!
If you have questions, please email kilgourroomparent@gmail.com
GREAT GATHERINGS
Great Gatherings are events that make our Kilgour community so great! They are a great way to meet other Kilgour parents and families, and fundraise for the school! Parents, families, or teachers will plan and fund an event, tickets are sold for the event, and all proceeds from ticket sales go back to Kilgour. They can be anything and for anyone you’d like! Families, parents-only or students only (for teacher Great Gatherings).
Examples of past Great Gatherings are Tacos & Tequila, Derby Party, Family Field Day, and College Night. Event descriptions and signups for many of the events will be available at the Silent Auction on October 4th!
Have a great idea for a Great Gathering? Get a group together, fill out the Kilgour Great Gathering Planning Google form by Monday, September 30 and start planning!
Please contact Cassie Wissel cassie.iseman@gmail.com or Abbey Bannerjee abbeybannerjee@gmail.com with any questions.
