Monroe Mustangs Move Up
Over the past 3 months, the Monroe Mustangs have been getting sneak peeks at what life will be like in the grade above them. Monroe’s Move Up day tradition was put on hold for several years due to Covid, but returned last year to the delight of all. Move Up days are a great way to ensure classroom families have the best chance of success for the following year. Teachers prepare class lists in February to be ready for move up days in March, April, and May.
Each month has 1 day where for 1 hour, students move up to the grade they will be in for next year. After each day, notes are made and students and teachers are switched as needed in hopes that by the May move up, teachers have a good picture of classroom dynamics for the following year. During Move Up Day students are given time to practice grade level expectations in the classroom, interact with students from other classes, and complete a fun activity. Everyone looks forward to these days and it helps build excitement around what can sometimes be a difficult transition for students as they leave their current teacher and classmates.
The Monroe Administration was also thrilled to announce to staff that after years of being a Silver PBIS school, they were awarded GOLD STATUS! Staff celebrated with a fun presentation ending with gold confetti cannons as the lounge was decked out with lots of GOLD level treats! Monroe Mustangs are truly moving up in every way!
