Welcome to Team Tikal!
August 23 Edition
Team Tikal
We can't wait to meet you on Monday! To find Team Tikal, you will walk past the gym on the ground floor of Deal. The first classroom past the gym is where Math 7 and Math 8 will be. The second classroom past the gym is your science room. The third is History, which is conveniently across from the bathrooms. The English classroom is tucked behind the stairs beside the Reno Multipurpose Room.

Science with Ms Baker - (she/her) - Room RG02 - Email: christine.baker@k12.dc.gov
My name is Christine (Chris) Baker. My undergraduate degree is from the Honors Program at UGA in Science Education. My graduate degree is from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Curriculum Writing and Instruction. This will be my 19th year of teaching and 12th year teaching 7th grade Life Science at Deal.
I often refer to my course as baby Biology. We touch on almost all of the topics a student will learn in high school Bio. I will introduce experiments, cells, the human body, genetics, evolution, ecology, and classification. My hopes for our students are threefold:
- To learn more about their bodies and how to care for them
- To get them excited about preserving our natural world
- To prepare them to succeed in High School Biology courses
I have two young daughters at home so prioritize grading while at school. When an assignment is turned in, I will have your child's grades in Aspen the same day 95% of the time. If you see a WS (waiting for submission), then they have not submitted it when it was due. I expect students to keep up with graded work in their three ring binder in order to reference it in the future.
English with Mr Williams - (he/him) - Room RG04 - Email: crystal.williams3@k12.dc.gov
Hello! My name is Charlie Williams. I received my bachelor’s degree from Hollins University, and this will be my second year teaching at Deal and third year with DCPS. The theme for this course is My Hero Self, so students will be empowered to see themselves as intrepid heroes, ready to face any challenge that comes their way. I love teaching 7th grade ELA because this is the age where students explore who they are and find their voice, and I get the honor and privilege of showing them how to use that voice effectively.
Math 7 and Math 8 with Mr Walton - (he/him) - Room RG01 - Email: sean.walton@k12.dc.gov
Hello Families,
This will be a remarkable year for students in Math 7/8. As an eleventh-year educator, I am elated to be another asset on this Deal team as we help all students flourish. If there are any questions or concerns, please reach out at Sean.walton@k12.dc.gov or (301) 541-3613.
Individuals and Societies with Mr McShane- (he/him) - Room RG03 - Email: brian.mcshane@k12.dc.gov
I earned my BA in Tele-communications from Penn State University and used that degree to work in TV as an associate producer on several documentaries in Philadelphia. After several years of working in Television, I went back to school where I earned my Master’s degree in Secondary Education from Holy Family University and earned my secondary social studies teaching certificate.
This will be my 19th year of teaching and my 6th year teaching at Alice Deal MS. I am the team’s Individuals and Societies teacher. In seventh grade we focus on ancient history. I strive to create an enriching and engaging environment as we investigate many exciting topics from Ancient History. We will study building civilizations, Egyptian Pharaohs, various philosophies, mythology, interesting inventions, and the culture of ancient civilizations.
