We all had such a blast at Open House this week. It was amazing seeing the pride students took in showing off their learning spaces, and all the engaged families connecting with staff and with each other!

Meeting the needs of every learner, every day
A Note From Your Principals
🥶 So, we survived three days of inside recess due to the cold last week! Please believe, that is a TEST of our students' and staffs' stamina, endurance, patience, and control. It is hard for our learners to be cooped up inside, and last week proved just how important fresh air and movement is! Looking ahead, we are hoping the coldest of the cold has worked itself out and indoor recess will become less and less of a reality. It's not our favorite at CEPS!
🏫 Thank you SO MUCH for our families that were able to attend Open House last week on Thursday. We had a great turnout, and we also acknowledge there are reasons some families could not attend, and that is ok! Please read the Open House section in the "Notes and Updates" section below for a recap, chance to provide feedback, and more to come.
Sincerely,
Greg Nelson, CEPS Principal
Brooke Hauser, CEPS/WIS Associate Principal

Notes & Updates
Open House: In the Books, But Not DONE!
This year, we embedded student involvement by having them create handmade invites (and many also made their own Seesaw posts) to invite families, and we asked for students to leave their feedback on sticky notes in the cafeteria about what they liked and suggestions for next year. We promoted family engagement by asking everyone to wear name-tags with fun facts to help build connects. We also infused family involvement with the shared ⭐Family Star activity,⭐where all families worked together to create a Star during the event sharing what is unique about their family. If you didn't come, your child will bring it home and we ask that you complete and return for an art installation in our building.
More to come...We are also hoping to get family and staff feedback, and will host a Family Forum. This forum will include a small group of parents/guardians and staff volunteers who will review the parent/staff/student feedback, reflect on the event, and provide suggestions to help improve for next year. Be on the lookout over email for the feedback survey, and the sign-up to be part of the forum. Thank you!
25/26 Class Placement Input
Believe it or not, we're already planning for next school year! Our class placement process takes place throughout the spring and summer, with teacher names being shared with families in August. We carefully consider many factors to create balanced classes that meet the needs of all learners.
If you would like to provide input about your child's academic, social, or emotional needs, or other unique characteristics about them as a learner, please email the appropriate principal by March 7, 2025.
- Incoming K-2nd Graders: Greg Nelson ( nelsong1@mcfsd.org)
- Incoming 3rd Graders: Corey Shefchik ( shefchc@mcfsd.org)
Important Notes:
- We cannot accommodate requests for specific teachers or peers. Instead, please focus on your child's learning needs. To be fair to all, if you request people by name we cannot honor that.
- A new message must be submitted each year, as we do not review past placement requests.
- Requests received by the March 7 deadline receive top consideration.
- Incoming 3rd Graders: Waubesa Intermediate School uses a partner teacher model, meaning students have two teachers, one for Math, Science, and Social Studies and another for Reading, Writing, and Word Study.
- We will always accommodate parents' requests to place twins separate or together. If we don't hear from you, we place them separately.
- Please do not hesitate to contact Greg Nelson with questions about this process.
K-5 Parent/Guardian Learning Night is 3/3/25!
The K-5 Parent/Guardian Learning Night is quickly approaching on Monday, March 3 from 6:00-7:00 at Waubesa Intermediate School. Please note, this event is intended to be for parents and guardians only. If you’re interested and able to attend the event, we’re asking all parents/guardians to complete this RSVP form by 2/26/25 so we’re able to plan. If you’re needing child care for school aged children (3-12 years old) there’s a place in the RSVP form to indicate that.

Bridging Brighter Smiles will be back at CEPS on Wednesday, February 26th for their winter visits. Information and registration will be emailed to all families. Students due for an exam or newly registered may be pulled from class for a short period of time. Please direct families to the health office with any questions!
Cold & Flu Season
We are continuing to see cases of Pneumonia, Strep Throat, Influenza, Covid 19 and GI Viruses (Vomiting/Diarrhea) circulating the schools. We ask that you please reach out to your student's Medical Provider if symptoms do not improve within a few days or if you have concerns that your student may have a communicable disease (DHS Wisconsin Childhood Communicable Disease guidelines). Remember, if your child is sick please keep them home and seek medical evaluation as needed. Students will be sent home with the following symptoms:
- Temperature above 100.4°F
- Vomiting or Diarrhea
- Frequent uncontrollable cough
Your child should remain at home until fever, vomiting/diarrhea has stopped for 24 hours without the use of medication (Parent Handbook - McFarland School District Health Services & Guidelines for sending your child to school). Please notify the health office as well if your student is diagnosed with a communicable disease. This information is very helpful to us in the health office to help track illness and notify families when appropriate. We are happy to answer questions about exclusion policies and attendance, provide medications in the health office or be a resource for your student if needed for ongoing illness. Please reach out with questions and stay well!
- If interested in getting your student vaccinated please visit Public Health Immunization Clinics or reach out to your clinic.
- If you are in need of Health Insurance please review our Health Insurance Resources located on the MSD Health Service Website.

- February 28 to March 30 - Ramadan
Ramadan
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and begins on the evening of February 28 and continues until March 29. During this time, many Muslim followers will participate in fasting by not consuming anything (water, food, medicine, etc.) from sunrise to sunset. Ramadan is more than abstaining from food and drink. It is observed as a time for reflection, community, charity, and renewal of faith.
To encourage an atmosphere of inclusivity and understanding the district is committed to providing provisions and accommodations to students who observe.
All buildings will provide a dedicated space for students to access throughout the day, including during lunchtime.
CEPS - Main office and space will be provided
WIS - Main office and space will be provided
IMMS - Library
MHS - SLC (Library)
All staff have been asked to remain aware of the physical and mental needs connected to fasting.
If you have any other specific needs or requests outside what we are currently providing, please contact your building principal or a member of student services. We value and support our diverse community and as a District, we want to ensure our environment is inclusive, respectful, and committed to student belonging, achievement, and growth.
If you are interested in learning more about Ramadan:
A common greeting during Ramadan is "Ramadan Mubarak" which loosely translates to "Have a blessed Ramadan." Here is how to pronounce Ramadan Mubarak.
