Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori
This week has been a great opportunity to celebrate te reo Māori, with a range of in-class activities to promote growth and learning in a language that is such a unique taonga for our country.
Whether fluent or a total beginner, te reo is the cornerstone of our bi-cultural heritage, and an important cultural competence that has gone from strength to strength, reflecting changing societal attitudes in all walks of life today.
Ultimately, changes in language usage are signposts for the evolving values of any culture, so we're proud to celebrate this essential part of the children's learning - part of the continuing journey to reinvigorate and reclaim a language that was once in very real danger of being lost.
It's sobering to think that as recently as the 1980s, systematic, deliberate suppression of the language over generations had resulted in fewer than 20% of Māori knowing enough te reo to be regarded as native speakers, despite Te Tiriti oWaitangi obligations.
Today, we're fortunate we can all play a small part in realising the essential heritage that te reo Māori confers on all our tamariki, and the way in which it adds to the richness of their life and learning for all people in Aotearoa, New Zealand.
End of Term
Time has certainly flown this term once again - a reminder that we finish at the usual time of 3pm next Friday, 22nd September - don't forget the PTA ice-blocks after school on the last day!

Halloween disco Friday 27th October
Junior Disco: 5 - 6pm & Senior Disco: 6.30 - 7.30pm
Thank you for all those that have already put their names down to help with the Halloween disco! We still need more volunteers, especially for end of senior disco tidy up / pack down. If you have a child attending the senior disco this year please stay for a little longer to help pack up. The more helpers we have the faster the job is done! (We will also call for volunteers to help during the disco. These roles are very popular and will be open to those that sign up for the below roles first.)
1) Decorators - between 1 to 3 pm on the 27th of October.
2) After Junior Disco Clean up - Between 6 and 6:30 pm
Can you stay a bit after the Junior Disco and help clean up? This involves sweeping the floor, removing rubbish and recycling pizza boxes to get the Disco ready for the Seniors.
3) After Disco pack up / clean up - Between 7:30pm to 8 pm
Can you stay a bit after the Senior Disco and help pack up and clean up? Perhaps you are picking up your Year 4-6 child? Your child and their friends could help clean up also. Tasks would include taking down decorations, and general clean up. The more people we have the faster the job is done!

MENPS Fair 2024 - CAN YOU HELP??
The much loved MENPS Food & Fun Fair is set to return on Sunday 17 March 2024 BUT we can only run this with help from our community. See HERE for roles that we need to fill!
Given the planning that goes into such an event, we need to secure volunteers NOW so we can be sure we can run the Fair in 2024. If we do not have enough volunteers signed up by the start of Term 4 2023, then we will need to make the sad call to cancel the fair for 2024.
Please let us know if you can help - whether you have done it before OR you would like to get involved for the first time, we would love to hear from you. It is a lot of fun being a part of the Fair, and volunteers will be well supported by the PTA & Fair team. Please email: menpspta@gmail.com now to register your interest or let us know if you have any questions!
Full list of roles can be found here: https://www.menpspta.co.nz/fair

Thank you for your help this year in collecting Yummy Apples Stickers
This year's total is 10 388 points! Amazing MENPS! Every sticker you have collected has made a difference. The collection sheets have been sent to Yummy Apples and we are waiting to find out how much Yummy Apple money we will be allocated for sports equipment! We will share what was purchased when this is finalised!
If you still have sticker collection sheets at home, please bring them into the office and these sheets will be saved and counted for next year! Well done and once again a big Thank you!
