Greetings, and welcome to a new semester
Last year was a strange year, and this year is starting out no different. We have a delay in the beginning of classes due to the COVID surge that is sweeping through the nation, and the state. UUP is working hard for the health and safety of its members wherever the challenges come. I wanted to address the following right now:
Welcome new Officer in Charge – D. Phil Neisser has been appointed to fill the role of Officer in Charge at SUNY Potsdam. Many of you will remember Phil from his role here several years ago as a Political Science professor. We welcome Phil back home to Potsdam and are very happy to have one of our own in this important role. Phil was a well-known and well-respected professor at SUNY Potsdam, and it is encouraging to have someone in charge who understands what the strengths and challenges face this University. o New chancellor – Dr. Deborah Stanly
o Vaccine mandate
There is a vaccine mandate for all SUNY professors. UUP will comply with the rules as they are distributed by the Governor’s office, know too that UUP will defend our members from disciplinary measures associated with the vaccine mandate. If you have a legitimate exemption case for failure to comply with the vaccine mandate, contact HR immediately.
o Budget increase
§ The state has a large excess of available funds due to the federal stimulus packages passed by congress. The Governor has pledge some of these assets to SUNY, which is good news. Get involved with the decisions of how the state allocates these funds by making your voice heard through your union, also by contacting your state representatives. · New contract (link to members only site) https://uupunion.org/myuup/MembersOnly/
