Dear Families,
When I saw the hallway display above, I wanted to take a moment to share a reminder about the importance of fostering a growth mindset in our children. At our school, we believe that intelligence and abilities are not fixed traits, but rather qualities that can be developed through dedication, effort, and resilience. Encouraging a growth mindset in our students promotes a love for learning, resilience in the face of challenges, and a belief in their own potential to succeed. By embracing the idea that mistakes are opportunities for growth and setbacks are temporary, our children can approach learning with enthusiasm and determination. Together, let's continue to nurture this mindset in our young learners, empowering them to reach their fullest potential.
The students are having a great few weeks of learning. We are proud of how hard all of our students are working, especially our PSSA test takers!. Next week brings the last week of PSSA testing for students in grades 3-5. If your child was absent, they will be given a make-up test.
We will send you the May monthly calendars next week. Have a great few weeks.
Donna

Our students will enjoy a day at the WCU track in a friendly competition against other WCASD elementary schools. WE WILL NEED YOUR HELP!!! The success of the track meet rests heavily on the parent volunteers. YOU WILL NEED YOUR CLEARANCES. You can visit this link on the district website for information about obtaining your clearances. We suggest you put in for your clearances now as they do sometimes take a bit of time to receive them back. Mr. Y will send you an email after Spring Break with more information.

Hello Glen Acres Elementary Families!
My name is Thelma Meeks and I am the new Home and School Visitor at Glen Acres! I wanted to quickly introduce myself and briefly explain how I can be a resource to your family. I am Licensed Social Worker with over 10 years of helping families in the school and community. My priority in this role is to help your students be successful in the learning environment by removing any barriers that may arise. Those barriers can include attendance issues, medical insurance needs, or any type of resource referral your student may need.
Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions. My phone number is 484.266.1720 and my email address is tmeeks@wcasd.net

Attendance Information
Our attendance secretary, Mrs. Theresa Weaver, will be your contact for all things related to attendance, dismissal and the pickup patrol app. She can be reached at tweaver2@wcasd.net or 484-266-1712.
Important Change to Absence Notes
Thank you to all of our parents/guardians who have registered for Pick-Up Patrol and already began using it this school year. Pick-Up Patrol (PUP) should be used for all dismissal plans and changes. Absences must be reported by 9:00 A.M., either through PUP OR through the Safe Arrival Line (484-266-1710). When we initially rolled out PUP, our understanding was that it could be used in lieu of submitting an excuse form. We have just learned that is not the case.
Excuse forms, completed with the necessary data such as childβs name, date and reason for absence, are to be turned in by the student within three (3) days, after his/her return from an absence. The absence of any student failing to comply with this time period, will automatically become unexcused and/or unlawful and the school laws of Pennsylvania shall be applied. Excuse notes via email from a registered email address in PowerSchool will be accepted without an original signature. (Per District Attendance Guidelines Code 204AG1). If you are emailing a note, please email your note to our attendance secretary, tweaver2@wcasd.net.
Excuse forms need to be kept on file in accordance with district and state policy.
Safe Arrival phone line at 484-266-1710, is still available to report your childβs absence.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation with this policy.
* Some families asked if there is a form that they can fill out regarding absences. Since we take emails and handwritten notes, a form is not needed. However, if it is easier for you to have a form, you can use the form in this link.
