Reporting an Absence
A parent or guardian should call the attendance line at (847) 657-2692 by the start of school on each day of the absence. If no report of a child's absence is received, parents or guardians will receive a phone call.
When calling the attendance line, a parent/guardian can leave a range of dates for planned absences.
Please note that if a parent or guardian notifies the student’s teachers about an upcoming absence, they must also call the attendance line with the same information.
Halloween this Year!
Halloween is coming, and we are excited to host celebrations in classrooms, as well as a parade. Please read the following procedures!
👻 COSTUMES:
-Please send your student to school in their costumes!
-Masks that cover the entire face are not allowed, and no costumes depicting violence of any kind, weapons, or other inappropriate costumes will be permitted. Students may bring an appropriate prop to enhance their costumes.
-Remember the importance of choosing culturally respectful costumes for this fun and festive occasion so that we can ensure that everyone has an enjoyable and inclusive experience during this holiday.
🍂 PARADE:
-The parade will BEGIN at 2:00pm on October 31st. Give yourself ample time to park and find a spot to stand as a spectator. Crowley Park parking, street parking and our Henking parking lots may be used. Please be kind to our neighbors and community members and abide by any No Parking signs.
-There is no need to enter the building. Parents may stand on the areas designated in the map below. There will be staff outside helping to advise you where to go.
-The parade line will continue moving, and students will not be able to step out of the parade line for photos, etc. Please do your best to get your photos as students walk by!
-In the event of inclement weather, we will hold a student only parade inside the building with no guardian spectators.
🍁 CLASSROOM PARTIES:
-We are proud of our diversity at Henking! Classroom parties this year will be fall themed to be more inclusive.
-Only parents who have been assigned to help with parties will be able to enter the building. Please check in at the main office, you will be given a visitors sticker.
-Room parents who are running the classroom parties need to come alone to help facilitate the party and supervise the students. ** Do not bring siblings, the party is for Henking students only **
TAKING STUDENTS HOME EARLY -- AFTER THE PARADE:
We strongly encourage students to remain at school until the end of the day. If you are planning on picking up your child early after the parade, please:
2) After the parade, please come to the main office to SIGN OUT your student.

Attention Kinder Families!
ReadyBodies ~ LearningMinds!
We are excited to announce that the Ready Bodies Learning Minds (RBLM) motor labs are about to begin! Students have been doing the key exercises (Superhero, Popcorn, Giraffe, Rocking Horse) to prepare to do the motor lab exercises. The Ready Bodies Learning Minds program was created to support the developmental, motor, sensory, and academic growth of ALL students. The RBLM motor lab addresses the needs of all students in task-oriented circuit training, supported by consistent, foundational exercises, offering developmental support for the sensory and motor systems. Students will be attending the lab at least once a week and learning new activities each time. They will then practice those activities throughout the week. Overall, it focuses on helping students move their bodies through space in a very specific manner to help integrate reflexes, build body awareness, and coordination that support students throughout their school day. We are grateful to the Glenview Education Foundation for their support of this program in our preschool program and Kindergarten classrooms at Henking, Lyon and Westbrook.
Supporting Our Children in Their Hardest Moments with Dr. Doug Bolton
Our children are facing emotional struggles like never before, and as parents/guardians, we often don’t know how to respond effectively. Recent brain science offers new insights into emotional regulation and provides tools to support our children in their toughest times. This workshop will equip parents with strategies to better understand and help their children during challenging moments.
The Debra Gelfand Children’s Foundation has invited Psychologist Doug Bolton to speak to all D34 families and the Glenview community on Wednesday, October 23, at 7pm at Attea Middle School (2500 Chestnut Ave). Interpretation and childcare services are available to in-person attendees.
Doug Bolton is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and Director of School Consultation for Formative Psychological Services. He spent over 20 years as a psychologist and principal at North Shore Academy, a K-12 therapeutic school in Highland Park. Dr. Bolton provides consultation, supervision and professional development to caregivers, educators, and clinicians throughout northern Illinois to create communities that help foster child and adult resilience.

We're excited to share some positive changes to our classroom party program for this school year! Your generous support has always been the heart of these joyful events, and we're grateful for your continued involvement.
To streamline the process and ensure every class benefits equally, we've made a few simple adjustments:
- You can now contribute directly to the PTA's party fund.
- Your donations will be evenly distributed across your child's grade level.
