Quality Assurance Requirements
In person courses will be:
- May 25 6:00 p.m. at the Fair Center
- June 7 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. at the Fair Center
- June 7 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. at the Fair Center
Ownership and Identification
Proof of ownership (by completing the appropriate ID sheet and turning it into the Extension Office) in the 4-H & FFA division must be established by the following methods and dates:
- Poultry - Description and leg band ID (June 15) ID Sheet
Entries/Number of Entries
At entry time, (July 12, 2021) each 4-H member of a family holding their animals in joint ownership must designate on the entry sheet which animal(s) he or she plans to show. Livestock divisions in which a 4-H and FFA member may enter:
- (10) birds plus 1 pen of 3

With the recent changes made to the 2021 Nebraska State Fair 4-H Livestock shows, we have made changes to the Otoe County 4-H Poultry show. Listed below is the change we will be incorporating going forward.

Fair Schedule for Poultry
- 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. 4-H, Clover Kid, FFA, & Open Class Poultry check-in & caging, including Eggs
Saturday, July 24
- 9:00 a.m. 4-H & FFA Poultry Showmanship Judging – Royal Arena followed by 4-H, FFA, & Open Class Poultry judging in cages
- 1:30 p.m. (following Companion Animal Show) - 4-H Poultry, Rabbit & Companion Animal Awards – Royal Arena
Sunday, July 25
- 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Release all poultry & clean cages
Poultry Rules
- All chickens must be identified with a numbered poultry band by June 15. Bands are available to purchase at the Extension Office.
- POULTRY HEALTH REGULATIONS. All poultry must be free of external parasites and all obvious communicable diseases. Any poultry found to have external parasites will be disqualified from the fair and must be removed from the fairgrounds.
- All poultry exhibited must be grown in a member's project. To be eligible for exhibition, cockerel, pullet, cock, or hen must be a fair representative of the breeds listed in the American Standard of Perfection. Judging will be by American Poultry Association (APA) Standards of Perfection. 21
- MINIMUM WEIGHTS. The minimum weights for light breeds (such as Leghorn) is 3-lbs. for pullets and 4-lbs. for cockerels; 4-lbs. for pullets and 5-lbs. for cockerels in the heavy breeds.
- TRIO. A trio exhibition of birds shall consist of one male and two females. Birds entered singly are not eligible to be judged as part of a trio. Birds entered in a trio are not eligible to be judged in individual competition.
- PENS. A pen of broilers shall consist of three male or three female birds 6-9 weeks of age. A pen of hybrids, crossbred or purebred egg production birds shall consist of 3 sexually mature females.
- Pens and broilers or egg production females will be judged for production qualities only and need not necessarily conform to breed standards. Eggs are entered at time of Poultry check-in.
- Exhibitors may enter up to a total of 10 birds plus 1 pen of 3.
- Cages will be provided and assigned by Superintendents. Feed and water containers will be provided. Exhibitors are to take care of poultry during the entire fair. No stock can be removed from exhibition until end of fair.
- Each exhibitor may be allowed up to 10 cages, however Cockerels, Pullets & Hens may be caged together for sake of space. Example: Pullets with pullets, hen with hen, cockerels with cockerels, cocks will not be caged together.
- Exhibitors are required to clean cages after release of exhibits on Sunday. Exhibitors must provide their own cleaning equipment to clean cages and must get official release from Superintendent after cages are cleaned.

Clover Kids
Clover Kid poultry are caged the entire fair. Entry sheets must be filled out for all Clover Kid animals. If stalling the complete fair then Clover Kids are required to follow the same stalling rules as a regular 4-H animal exhibitor (cost, entry time, release time, herdsmanship, etc.)
Stalling & Release
All 4-H and FFA livestock must be stalled in their assigned area according to their 4-H Club or FFA Chapter or they will not be allowed to show. 4-H member showing livestock must keep their livestock in the pens as provided by the Otoe County Agricultural Society. Only ordinary fans are allowed as cooling devices.
