Grade Level News
Meet the Teacher
Meet Emily Nelson a Saint Mary Alumni who loves to receive Dr Pepper to brighten her day. She is an enthusiastic first-year Social Studies teacher who is eager to inspire and nurture her students' growth. With a firm belief in the power of stability and encouragement, Emily has discovered that motivating her students through positive reinforcement leads to remarkable transformations in their learning journeys. Outside the classroom, she embraces the beauty of nature and indulges in her love for reading, often finding joy in sunny days and compelling stories. A Minnesota native who later moved to Nebraska, Emily's passion for education is matched only by her commitment to personal growth—she is currently pursuing her Master's degree, and she appreciates a little grace as she balances her teaching responsibilities with her studies. With a background in lacrosse and a quirky talent for balancing almost anything on her head, Emily brings a unique blend of energy, creativity, and dedication to her role as an educator.
NURSE CORNER
Illness absent protocol for Patton
Please call the school for any absences or tardiness. This allows us to record the absence.
- USD 207 policy states that all students should be kept at home for illnesses until free from fever, diarrhea, or vomiting for 24 hours without the aid of medications. A fever is considered to be 99.6 degrees or above.
- Your student will be marked Excused only if the Nurse calls and states the kid needs to go home. If the Parent chooses to take the student home it will be marked unexcused until a Medical Note is provided.
Volunteers are needed
We are looking for a few parents to help with the vision and hearing test, please see the QR code below to sign up. I have also provided the link below.

Principles of Biomedical Science
Students in Principles of Biomedical Science had the unique experience of doing a gel electrophoresis lab this week! Gel electrophoresis is a technique used to separate and analyze biomacromolecules like DNA. Gel electrophoresis can be used to analyze the evidence left at a crime scene. Though it’s hard to capture in a picture, the goal is to compare the different vertical lanes of DNA. DNA analysts are looking for a match from DNA found at a crime scene to the DNA of the suspects.
