Boone Meadow Friday Flyer
May 24, 2024
Dear Boone Meadow Families -
Can you believe that summer break begins in just one week? Only four more days left of the 2024-2025 school year! As these days slip by so quickly, we can't help but acknowledge all the time and attention invested by our staff, our students, and our families to make this one of the best years yet!
A deep heartfelt thanks to our PTO for their generous support, our consistent volunteers who show up every day to work with students and support our team, and our dedicated staff who pour so much into our students. All this investment matters deeply—it is seen, and it is appreciated.
As we wrap up these last days, please take note of the following:
- Monday, 5/27: Memorial Day (no school)
- Wednesday, 5/29: Summer Reading Program - Hussey Mayfield staff will be sharing information with students during their related arts.
- Thursday, 5/30: Fourth Grade Celebration for 4th-grade students and their parents. Parents are invited to share in a cookout and celebration in the classroom. Information should be received from your child's teacher.
- Friday, 5/31: Last day of school for students; Kona Ice will be located in Eagles Nest and Clark Meadows in the afternoon.
- Tuesday, 6/4: The building will be closed for an undetermined amount of time this summer due to renovation projects. New paint, flooring, wall coverings, etc., will adorn our space for our return in August. We will notify families through summer communication when the building will reopen.
A couple of other important reminders:
- Registration for Next School Year: Thank you to all who have completed this process for the 24-25 school year. The registration information significantly influences planning and preparation for resources, materials, staffing, and other campus needs. If you haven't yet completed it, please do so at your earliest convenience.
- ZCS School Calendar Survey: Just a few days remain for you to provide your valuable input. Please take a moment to participate in the ZCS School Calendar Survey. Your feedback is crucial in shaping our future calendars. ZCS School Calendar Survey
Enjoy your weekend!

Book Shopping - Next week
Free books!
We've done a little spring cleaning around Boone Meadow to prepare for the summer restoration projects and are excited to announce a special opportunity for our students! We've set up a book shop in Room 212 where students can "shop" with their class and prepare for summer reading. (Side note: all materials are free!)
Some of these books have been donated by individual teachers, some are "retired" from old resources, and some were donated by the Toys for Tots book giveaway program. We have a fantastic selection, including cool informational texts, beautiful storybooks, chaptered novels, and more. We even have some blank notebooks so students can write their own books!
Send your kiddo with a shopping bag, and we'll help them fill it with great reads to sustain a fun and engaging summer. The BME Book Shop will be open from 5/28 to 5/30. Happy reading!

All Families - Important Action Item: Registration for 24-25 School Year
Online registration for the 2024-2025 - All families...Deadline: May 31st
Thank you for completing ASAP!
Please follow the instructions listed below to submit information for your child(ren). Registration information is vital for ensuring that you receive information about the 2024-2025 school year, for maintaining records to ensure student safety, and in compliance reporting required of us on behalf of all enrolled students (for various state and local agencies). Please remember that this notification may have been sent to multiple parent/guardian contacts. Only ONE registration record may be submitted for each student. A parent/guardian who starts a registration for a student becomes the only registrant possible for this student.
Please complete this registration as soon as possible. The deadline is before Friday, May 31, 2024, and THE SOONER THE BETTER!
If your child will not be returning to Zionsville Community Schools next year, please contact the administrative assistant at his/her current school and complete the Student Change Form so that you won't continue to receive these notices.
THANK YOU FOR DOING YOUR CHILD(REN’S) REGISTRATION TO ENSURE THEY ARE ON A CLASSLIST ON AUGUST 13, 2024!
You will use the PowerSchool Parent Portal to access the Registration.

- Click on the Registration Icon button on the left side navigation.
- Enter that student's date of birth in MM/DD/YYYY format
I don't have a login for the PowerSchool Parent Portal.
- Please click here for the directions. In the form to create an account during the setup use 400000000 as the Access Account and Lisa as the Access Password.
I can’t remember my login for the PowerSchool Parent Portal.
- If you aren’t able to retrieve your login credentials using the “Having trouble signing in?” link on the Sign In page, please contact your school directly.
Do I have to answer all the questions?
- No, but some questions are marked "Required" and must be answered before you can submit your form.
What if I make a mistake?
- If you would like to make a change prior to submitting the form, you can either navigate back to the page using the “Previous” and “Next” buttons or if you are on the Review page select the underlined field. If you have already submitted the form you will need to contact your student’s school so they can make the changes for you.
I’ve completed the form, now what?
- Once you have finished entering your information select “Submit.” This will send all the data entered to the school. If the submit button is not visible, there is likely a question that has not been answered. Review the questions and ensure you have recorded answers for all required questions. Once you have done this, the submit button will become available.
What if I have more than one student in the district? Do I need to do this for each child?
- Yes, you will need to provide information that is specific to each child. We recommend that you complete and submit one form and then start another. This will allow you to import selected family information, which saves you time. After you complete the first registration, return to the PowerSchool Parent Portal and select the next student in the blue bar and hit Registration.

What is Appreciation of Beauty & Excellence?
Those who express an appreciation of beauty & excellence notice and appreciate beauty, excellence and/or skilled performance in all domains of life, from nature to art to mathematics to science to everyday experience.
People high in Appreciation of Beauty and Excellence are responsive to these three types of goodness:
- PHYSICAL BEAUTY - This may include auditory, tactile or abstract. This type of goodness produces awe and wonder in the person experiencing it.
- SKILL OR TALENT (EXCELLENCE) - This is often energizing, and compels a person to pursue their own goals. It inspires admiration.
- VIRTUE OR MORAL GOODNESS (MORAL BEAUTY) - Virtuous goodness makes someone want to be better, more loving, and caring.
Spring Identification
The Indiana Department of Education requires school districts to identify gifted students and provide them with appropriately differentiated curriculum and instruction. In ZCS, we consider ability and achievement data of all students each spring to identify any who may need advanced curriculum and/or instruction. This spring our team of teachers, licensed in gifted education, will look at all data to make sure that we understand the needs of each student.
Our school district is committed to continuous progress for all students, regardless of designation. Accelerated content is common in our classrooms as are heightened expectations, instructional levels and high-achieving peers. Whether or not a child is identified as needing advanced curriculum, our teachers are committed to regular assessment of skills and knowledge and matching experiences to challenge each child and help him or her make maximum academic growth. While we have approximately 20% of students who are formally identified in elementary school, more than 40% of students take advanced coursework in high school. We are proud to be a high-performing school district with high expectations for all students.
For students currently in grades K-3: Programming at the elementary level is based on student need for acceleration and enrichment within a cluster group in a general education classroom and not on labels. All student data is reviewed each year to look for several indicators that a child needs advanced instruction in order to grow academically. Our identification team looks at achievement (NWEA), ability (CogAT/OLSAT) and teacher observational data (KOI/SIGS). Since these vary from year to year with young students, we re-look at every student each spring. Parents will be notified by June 1 if their child has been recommended for more advanced curriculum. If your child was not identified through our extensive process, parents/guardians may appeal the decision. Parents/guardians can complete the appeal process by June 15. Forms are located on the Academics tab of our website under “Advanced Curriculum”:

For students currently in grade 4: All students are considered and more formally identified for high ability each year throughout middle school where they are placed in a class with high ability curriculum. Our identification team considers either achievement (NWEA) or ability (CogAT/OLSAT) when making decisions. Parents will be notified by June 1 if their child has been recommended for differentiation based on the need for accelerated instruction and curriculum. If your child was not identified through our extensive process, parents may appeal the decision. Parents can complete the appeal process by June 15. Forms are located on the Academics tab of our website under “Advanced Curriculum”: https://4.files.edl.io/9ed3/07/24/19/163425-9b8daab0-04e6-4efb-acd8-f68c3aec4318.pdf
Note: If your child is currently identified and receiving more advanced curriculum in grades 1-4, you will not receive an email because this placement will continue for the next school year.
Building Closure This Summer
Due to BME's summer renovation project, the school building will be closed beginning June 4th. Timeline for reopening the building will be communicated as more information becomes available. Don't hesitate to reach out to us as the office team will be working remotely from other locations.
Boone Meadow will receive new flooring, paint, and wall coverings throughout a vast majority of the building. We are excited about and grateful for this refreshing of our building.
