Building Communication Skills
Technology tools can be really effective in helping to meet the needs of students as they work to improve communication skills. Why? Because they support students who struggle with writing on paper or need time to develop responses; encourage students to participate in discussions and conversations who are typically reluctant or quiet; and give students opportunities to practice writing, speaking, and listening skills with a real-world audience. Google Drive
Create and share documents with anyone in your class. It allows for multiple users and real-time edits.
- Students can work on assignments any time they have access even when class is over.
- Create documents or multimedia presentations.
- Work is automatically saved. No lost work.
- Web-based so no need to worry about working from one device to another.
- Supports collaboration skills whether it is with students in the same class or in another country.
Edmodo
Edmodo is a social networking site for students where they can be a part of a community and practice their communication and digital citizenship skills all at once.
- Start a conversation on a specific topic or provide a writing prompt.
- Teach students how to respond to another person's comments respectfully and meaningfully.
- Users can write text, upload files, or post images and videos.
- Connect your students with other students around the world.

Connect with the world through free phone or video calls.
- Teach communication, listening, and speaking skills with a real-world audience.
- Develop collaboration skills with new classmates and provide opportunities to demonstrate positive digital citizenship skills.
