Dear Emerson Families,
This past week was Red Ribbon Week at EMS. It was so great to see the students and staff participate in our spirit days. As a reminder, students can not wear costumes, face masks, and/or face painting on Halloween. I hope you all have a wonderful and relaxing weekend!
Best,
Tessa

Parent U Rewind
Thank you to everyone who came out to our first Parent University event of the year! It was great getting to learn from cyberbullying expert Dr. Justin Patchin.
Dr. Patchin provided a lot of info and advice regarding children using social media, technology, and cyberbullying. You can watch his presentation here on our YouTube page.
D64 Spectator Expectations
Sports are an excellent way to develop character and valuable life skills in our middle school students. Not only do athletics promote physical fitness, but it also allows students to show perseverance, self-motivation, and teamwork.
We encourage fan participation at our events and know our community takes pride in supporting our District 64 students. Our families’ support and positive engagement are vital in creating a safe and enjoyable environment for our student-athletes.
As a District, we have high expectations of our student-athletes in regard to behavior, and we expect our parents and fans to adhere to those same expectations at all sporting events.

October S.O.A.R.S Update
As the month of October comes to an end, Emerson students celebrated National Hispanic Heritage Month as well as Red Ribbon Week during the extended homeroom. Students learned about the popular hispanic game, Loteria, and had a chance to play it online. They also participated in a cooperative number game and mediation. These activities allowed students to “Be Kind to Your Mind. Live Drug Free.” Thank you to the Emerson PTO and Red Ribbon Week Committee for planning a fun-filled week of drug awareness activities.
We use the Second Step program to promote skills and attitudes that increase students’ success in school, help students get along with others, and prevent violence, bullying, and substance abuse. Second Step is based on research in three key areas: early adolescent development, risk and protective factors, and instructional practices to support the program’s goals. Each lesson is specific to and appropriate for each grade level.
PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information on how our students have spent the month of October, as well as a listing of all of our S.O.A.R.S winners for the month.
