Weekly Update
August 8th, 2023
October 14- 18, 2024
Message From the Principal
We had a whole school assembly to recognize our students who received Honor Rolls for the 1st 9 weeks (some could change if students were sick and needed to turn in assignments). We do not print certificates anymore as they ended in the trash or all over the school. If you would like an honor roll certificate for your child please just email me and we can get one made.
This week we will only have school 2 days due to that and the 2nd 9 weeks just starting we will not be offering ASAP.
It will start back up the week of the 21st. Reminder that students who attend ASAP must be willing to put in the work and get the extra help on their assignments. It is not a time for goofing off and distracting others who are there trying to get caught up and get help.

Student Service Coordinator
I would like to invite you to meet with me during conference times this week. While I don’t have a sign-up sheet, I will be available at school during conferences. If you’d like to schedule a specific time, please feel free to reach out to me via email at payton.andrews@usd340.org.
At JWMS, we place significant emphasis on the development of both individual and collective character within our community. As part of this commitment, we are excited to participate in the CharacterDare challenge. The CharacterDare is like a workout for our hearts and enables us to actively practice and enhance skills such as kindness, patience, and respect.
Our CharacterDare this week encourages students to take a “tech timeout” and pick a specific day this week to focus on being completely present with those around them.
We would also like to extend an invitation to all families to join us in taking up these challenges whenever possible. We are excited to discover the positive impact that these shared challenges can have on our students, families, and community

Hello! My name is Shannon Heide Livingston, and I am excited to have joined Jefferson
West Middle School as the school-based therapist. This is a new service the district is
offering for students and families to help in supporting students’ mental health needs
and ensuring that therapy is accessible.
I grew up in a small town in Kansas, called Downs, and after graduation moved to
Lawrence to attend the University of Kansas where I earned both a bachelor’s and
master’s degree in social work. The first part of my career I worked primarily in
community mental health centers in eastern Kansas providing case management and
individual and family therapy, including supervising a therapeutic preschool program.
For the past 13 years, I worked doing direct service and leadership for a nonprofit child
welfare agency, dedicated to keeping families safely together and preventing youth from
entering into the foster care or juvenile justice systems, working with children in foster
care, and supporting foster and adoptive families.
I am married with two children. My daughter Neva is in her first year of college at Maine
College of Art in Portland and my son Raine is a sophomore at Lawrence High. As a
family we all enjoy road trips and seeing live music- we made sure our kids started out
by seeing The Rolling Stones at a young age!
If you have any questions or would like to talk about how to request services for your
child, please email me at sheidelivingston@mytgc.org or call 785-484-2900. I look
forward to connecting with you!
