A4LE Bond Fest
One of the several large gatherings of contractors and architects related to school construction in Colorado took place at the CCIC in mid-September as districts across the metro area shared their hopes and plans for upcoming bond campaigns. Hosted by A4LE, the Association for Learning Environments, this event included over 100 industry leaders and included a panel of district leaders from each of the largest local school districts in Colorado in a panel discussion. With the mission to “work at the intersection of learning and place to drive the evolution of learning environments”, A4LE leads the industry nationally in this critical work. As Italian educator Loris Malaguzzi said years ago indicating the critical importance of school design, “Space is the 3rd teacher.”
Senator Hickenlooper visits CCIC
Senator John Hickenlooper toured the CCIC on the first day of school back in mid-August. The Senator shared his vision and plans for upcoming federal legislation titled the “Youth Apprenticeship Advancement Act” to establish a competitive federal grant that would boost workforce training programs. The goals of this legislation are to increase programs that provide a direct pipeline leading to competitive careers, support students ages 16-22 in apprenticeship programs, and build a globally competitive workforce. Senator Hickenlooper highlighted his legislative goals, met with a group of CCIC apprentices to hear about their experiences, and toured all seven of the CCIC career pathways seeing firsthand how Colorado leads the nation in Career Technical Education.
Transportation & Construction Girl Day
50 students, along with various staff members from the CCIC and Career & Technical Education (CTE) attended Transportation & Construction Girl Day on 9/28, at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds. The event, aimed at promoting women's participation in these industries, gave this group of young women the opportunity to participate in over 50 interactive and hands-on exhibits featuring heavy equipment, flight and excavator simulators, welding demonstrations, circuitry, drones, and more. Students finished the day touring the CCIC and learning about CTE courses available in their home high schools.
