Important Message from Mrs. Lehna
Dear Ordean East Families,
We are committed to supporting the academic, behavioral, and emotional well-being of all our students at Ordean East Middle School. As part of this commitment, we are excited to introduce the use of a social-emotional screening tool called mySAEBRS (Social, Academic, and Emotional Behavior Risk Screener) that is available to use through the FAST suite. This tool will help us assess and better understand the social-emotional needs of our student population.
The data gathered from mySAEBRS will allow us to identify trends within our school community and align our social-emotional learning curriculum to meet the specific needs of our students. This proactive approach will support the development of skills such as self-awareness, emotional regulation, and positive social interactions, fostering a safe and inclusive learning environment.
If the screener identifies a student as having high needs in any specific area, support staff will contact families directly to share the results and discuss potential next steps. We value the partnership between families and the school and believe that keeping you informed is a vital part of supporting your childβs success.
If you have any questions or concerns about the use of mySAEBRS or would like additional information about our social-emotional learning initiatives, please do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you for your continued support as we work together to nurture the growth and well-being of every student.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Sue Lehna

Writer's Workshop in Ms. Pioro's Room
Students have been learning the writing process by writing a short story, having Mrs. Pioro and two peers read their rough draft and then publishing their final for Mrs. Pioro. The students have made animals, aliens, human characters, and more come alive through these stories. They have worked hard to help each other make their stories the best they can be! Ask your student to read their story if you haven't had a chance to yet.

OEMS Staff Feature
Let's meet Katie Latscher-Carland, 6th Grade English Teacher
Describe your role at OEMS:
6th Grade English Teacher
What do you like to do when you are not at school?
Workout, read, watch tv, go for walks, bake/cook
We follow BARK principles at OEMS. BARK stands for Be kind, Act responsibly, Respect others, and Keep safe. Which is your favorite BARK principle?
Act responsibly. In 6th grade, that is a big skill that the students are learning. Being responsible for your actions, classwork, and materials will help you be successful for life.
What advice do you have for middle school students to help them be awesome humans?
Always be kind. Lending a helping hand or a simple smile goes a long way.
Do you want to time travel to the past or to the future? When? Why?
I would want to travel to the past. I enjoy learning about history so traveling back in time to learn it as it was happening would be cool. I would like to travel back to the Roman Empire, 1950βs-60βs, or ancient Egypt.
