New Announcements
Save the Date - October 22, 5:30pm K-12 Math and Science Family Workshop
October 22 from 5:30-6:30pm OCEAN teachers are offering a Math and Science Family Workshop.
Families will learn about how to support math and science at home.
We will also have a special guest from Discovery Behavioral Health teaching strategies for families when young people are struggling with emotional regulation.
Plan to attend this informative and helpful evening and connect with OCEAN families and staff.
Friday October 18th Dungeness Field Trip
Friday October 18th
- Meet at OCEAN by 9 AM
- Return by 3 PM
- Pack: Water, lunch, snacks, raingear, comfortable walking shoes.
Walk the Dungeness Spit. The Olympic Peninsula is home to the longest natural sand spit in North America. The Dungeness Spit just north of Sequim boasts breathtaking views, rich maritime history and an abundance of wildlife. It stretches nearly seven miles north into the Strait of Juan de Fuca and continues to grow by around 13 feet each year. Hiking the Dungeness Spit is a rewarding experience for all levels of physical ability.
All students & families, please RSVP HERE. Release forms are required for all participants. I will have them available the day of.
How to get there:
1. There is limited room in the school van(s). Please complete the form to let me know your child needs a spot saved! Must RSVP. Meet us at MB's classroom, 803, at 9 AM.
2. Drive your own car but want to caravan? Meet us at OCEAN, MB's classroom, at 9AM.
3. Meet us at The Dungeness Recreation Area in Sequim at 10:15 AM.
- Day-Use Note: Dungeness Spit and Wildlife Refuge visitors must use the northern USFW parking lot.

Islandwood Paperwork Deadline for 5th and 6th Grade: Due Oct 15
The RSVP and paperwork deadline has moved up a bit for Islandwood! If your student is interested in coming on the Islandwood trip November 4-7th, all paperwork is due this Tuesday October 15th. Thanks for your help! Please let MB know if you have any questions.
Ways to Support OCEAN School
- Volunteer in high school math class on a regular basis to work one on one with students. You don't have to be an expert in math or have a high school student. Contact Kyle, kreynolds@ptschools.org
- Volunteer to join middle school field trips Oct 14 and 16.
- Donate classroom snacks (examples: goldfish crackers, granola bars)
- Donate non perishable foods the OCEAN pantry for students and families to eat at school or at home.
- Make a staff meals during conference days OCEAN K-12 Parents: Food LOVE for OCEAN Teachers & Staff (signupgenius.com).

Picture retake day: New Date October 29
Picture retakes are October 29. If your student did not yet get their picture plan for them to attend school that day.
ASVAB Thursday, October 24th at 12:00pm at OCEAN
The ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) is being offered at OCEAN on Thursday, October 24th at 12:00pm. Student sin high school can take this test if they are interested in exploring a military career and to meet a graduation pathway option. OCEAN High School Student of the Week
Each week the Port Townsend Leader Highlights Students of the Week from Jefferson County High Schools.
Ruby Groussman is the OCEAN Student of the week. This is Ruby's first year at OCEAN and she is off and running! She is curious, engaged and taking charge of her learning while also being able to work independently. She is a caring classmate who embodies the OCEAN spirit. We are so glad she is a student in our school.

Tidings from The Hobbit
OCEAN's Winter/Spring Play
Parents, friends, and family of OCEAN students, The Hobbit production team is on the hunt for two very important technical roles - both working in collaboration with our director Marc Weinblatt:
Tech Director / Set Designer
Design and produce our set elements for this epic play. You'll both create pieces and coordinate with other volunteers to build, paint, and bring a version of Middle Earth to life as a backdrop for our amazing student actors. Includes a $500 honorarium if fundraising goals are met.
Prop Master
Responsible for sourcing, building, and/or customizing props as needed.

PSAT for Juniors Oct 28 - Sign up Today
Juniors - the PSAT (preliminary SAT) will take place on Monday, October 28 at PTHS. The PSAT provides practice for the SAT test and connects you to potential scholarship providers. The test costs $18 with fee waivers available. Please contact your School Counselor, Emily Eldridge at eeldridge@ptschools.org, if you'd like to take it. We'd like a preliminary list by September 30, so sign up today!
