WELCOME BACK!
I hope you have all had a restful and rejuvenating summer! It is my pleasure to welcome everyone back for another great school year. Our teachers and staff have been working hard to prepare for the upcoming school year. We are excited for students to arrive on August 9th!
Student schedules will be available via PowerSchool sometime on Tuesday, August 1st. Please know that if your student was able to access anything prior to that date, it was inaccurate.
We hope that you find our weekly newsletters helpful and informative. Each week we will send an update with important information and upcoming events.
I am honored to serve as the Principal of Shelbyville High School. It is a privilege to work in a community with a history of tradition and pride. I look forward to seeing all of you at events throughout the school this year.

REGISTRATION
We appreciate everyone who has registered their student during the first week of registration. If you have not done so already, please visit https://www.scs.shelbycs.org/page/registration to register your returning students. All new and returning students must be registered before the first day of school.
First Day of School starts August 9, 2023
FRESHMAN ORIENTATION
Wednesday, August 2 / 10am - 12pm
iPad handout for 6th and 9th Graders
iPads will be issued during orientation to high school incoming freshmen on Wednesday morning at SHS. All incoming 6th grade students will receive their iPads at SMS 6th grade orientation in the Media Center at SMS on Thursday evening. All students will need to fill out an iPad Agreement Form and give it to one of the Techs before they leave the area of distribution.
Course Fees and iPad Protection
If you would like to purchase iPad Protection you need to log onto your parent PowerSchool account and go to the student fees and select New Items then select 1:1 iPad Protection Plan 2023-2024 the cost is $25.00. You may also stop by the front office to fill out the paperwork and pay the $25.00 fee.
This Protection Plan must be purchased in the first 21 days of school.
Schedule Change Policy
- During the first week of a school semester, students may change their schedules only with the written approval of the current course, the teacher of the new course, a counselor, and a parent.
- The reason for schedule changes are:
- To meet a graduation requirement (i.e., makeup a failed course)
- To meet a documented college admission requirement. (Written documentation must be provided.)
- A detailed, written medical doctor's report verifying a medical reason.
- By teacher recommendation that the class is inappropriate for the student.
- After the first week of a school semester, students may change their schedules only with the written approval of the student services team, 504 committees, and/or special education case conference committee.
- Anyone who wishes to change classes without the written approval of those listed above, will receive a "WF" for the course. Only one (1) study hall is permitted per semester.
IMPORTANT - SCS Students Who Have Moved Into the District
Any student who has moved or moves during the school year will need to provide two pieces of documentation when making that change with the school. The link below will show you acceptable items and give you instruction on how to upload. You also have the option to bring those documents in to the front office.

Student and Dress Appearance
Guidelines:
- Dress should reflect personal pride - Clothing worn by students need to be appropriate for school and should not disrupt the learning environment. The following are examples of clothing or items that are considered to be inappropriate: Clothing that is designed to reveal students' bare midriff, chest, back, buttocks, undergarments, or the lack of undergarments.
- Dress should reflect respect for others - Clothing that advertises, promotes, or glorifies the use of alcohol, tobacco, illegal substances, weapons, or gang affiliation is not permissible. Clothing demeaning to race, religion, or sex (gender identity) is not permitted. Clothing that contains writing, slogans, pictures, or symbols that might cause misunderstanding or relay vulgar suggestions is not permissible.
- Dress should reflect pride in the school facility - Clothing that may cause damage to school property is not permitted (for example: cleats on shoes; shoes with wheels; long, heavy chains; and spiked apparel).
- Dress should respect the learning environment and security of school - Winter coats, sunglasses, costumes, costume accessories, hats, bandanas, hoods, and other types of headwear are not to be worn in the school building. If headwear is worn to school, it will be stored in a locker during the day.
- Dress should reflect a concern for safety - Students must wear shoes at all times. Students are not to carry book bags, cinch sacks, large purses, or similar items from class to class. These items will remain in the student lockers for security and safety reasons. Purses or small satchels will be permitted in class. These items must be kept on the corner of the student's desk, hanging from the desk's chair, or in a teacher - designated location in the classroom.
If a student violates the dress code, then arrangements will be made for a change in clothing, and consequences will be assigned from the discipline chart.
Student Driving and Parking Information
All students must park in the STUDENT LOT which is on the North side of the building in front of the softball/baseball fields. Students are NOT permitted to park out in the front of the building in the horseshoe or in the back of the building in front of the tennis courts/football field.
STUDENT DRIVING
Any student who drives to school must register their motorized vehicle(s) in the office and register to be a part of the random drug-testing program. Students will receive a copy of the driving regulations upon registration. Driving privileges can be revoked for attendance, disciplinary, or academic reasons.
Blue River Career Programs Driving
SHS/BRCP students may drive directly to BRCP for their assigned sessions (a.m. or p.m.) and may drive directly to SHS after their BRCP session. TO be eligible, students must a) be registered with the high school and BRCP offices and b) have prior administrative approval.
Application for Free/Reduced Lunches and Fees
The school meals program is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, school corporations across the country have been operating with the use of a federal waiver that allowed them to feed every child for free through the end of this school year. The use of this waiver will not be available after this school year and corporations will return to the traditional eligibility requirements for free, reduced and paid meals. This means that for School Year 2023-2024, our school corporation will process free and reduced-price meal benefit applications. To apply, see link below.
