Message From Superintendent Mueller
Good Afternoon, CUSD.
Congratulations to everyone on our first full week of school! It’s been a great week and during my visits around the district I have witnessed students and teachers at all four school sites connecting with each other, establishing routines, and fully engaging in the teaching and learning process.
This year we are establishing a Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council. I am excited about the opportunity to hear directly from our students about their perspectives, concerns, experiences, and views. The SSAC will be composed of secondary students (grades 7-12) and meet monthly. See the flyer below for more details. If your student is interested in participating please fill out the SSAC INTEREST FORM. NOTE: the deadline to apply is next Friday, September 8th.

September is traditionally the hottest month of the school year. Don’t forget to remind your child that the filtered water in the filling stations on campus is chilled! Information about our Heat Day Policy can be found on page 11 in our Back To School Magazine.
We are continuing to plan for our strategic visioning project to develop a Portrait of a Graduate. This process will engage staff, students, parents, alumni, business partners, and our community, to identify and define what kinds of graduates we want CUSD students to become over the course of their 12 years of formal education. The world of work is changing rapidly and our goal is to prepare our graduates for a successful future no matter what path they choose. Click here for Strategic Visioning 2023-24 Information and FAQ.
A quick shout-out to our Maintenance and Operations crew who came in last Sunday to completely flush the entire water system at Silver Strand Elementary after the Boil Water Advisory was lifted so that our students and staff could start Monday morning with confidence.
Have a safe Labor Day weekend; we will see you back in the district on Tuesday.

Caught Being Awesome!
As our educators, parents, and community come together to connect, challenge, and champion our students, we are humbled by the outpouring of compliments. What a positive testament to our CUSD family!
- Rudy Alcantara: I put more than 40 cardboard boxes outside of my classroom on a Monday afternoon, planning to come back the next morning, to break them all down, stack them up, and recycle them. By the time I arrived Tuesday morning, Rudy had already taken care of this large task and removed all of the boxes. I appreciate him taking care of this task for me!
- Amanda Ellison: She was a friendly face to welcome families at registration, she was helpful and knowledgeable, and the best part was at the end of everything with registration paperwork, she patiently looked me in the eyes and asked if I had any questions or concerns or if there was anything else she could do to help! What an amazing welcome!
- Annette Tickner: Ensured my children had a wonderful back to school experience. They came home excited, feeling safe and celebrated. What a great classroom environment.
- Brian Garcia: Mr. Garcia to the rescue! Avoiding the possibility of our 7th grader’s “worst year ever,” by the first day of school he moved our student out of a class that would’ve been detrimental to the intended educational goal and into one that far better suited his academic needs and learning style. Thanks to Mr. Garcia, our student is now excited about the “best school year ever!
Click here to recognize an employee or volunteer who goes above and beyond to make a difference. Those who are "caught" will receive a copy of the positive words that were shared about them and a "Caught Being Awesome" decal. Please take a minute or two to brighten someone else's day!
Mobile Device Protection Plan for Families With CUSD Chromebooks
If your student has a CUSD issued Chromebook, you are encouraged to review and consider purchasing the OPTIONAL Mobile Device Protection Plan (MDPP) for the 2022-2023 school year. The annual plan is designed to cover accidental damage of CUSD Chromebooks including screen breakage. In addition, the plan will protect against spills, fire, flood, natural disasters, and theft/loss. Mobile hotspots, power cords, cables, and other accessories are not covered. Intentional damage, improper device storage, and misuse are not covered.
The cost of the plan is $20 per device per year. The plan must be purchased annually at the beginning of each school year or at the time of registration to be valid. To maintain coverage, a new plan must also be purchased if a student is provided with a replacement device due to damage/loss of their previous device. This money will be used to create a dedicated pool of funding to replace or repair covered technology. All money collected through the program will go into a special account that can only be used to replace or repair technology that is covered in the plan. We highly recommend this low-cost protection plan. To purchase a Mobile Device Protection Plan for your student, please use the instructions at the following link: Mobile Device Protection Plan Purchase Instructions.
