Breakfast & Lunch Menu
Principal's Corner
Dear Griffin Families,
I hope that everyone has had a good week! Our GATE Griffins are hard at work in their classes and we completed our fall NWEA Assessments last week with a few stragglers for makeups this week. Elementary teachers meet to collaborate on decisions around content area placement. Please review the GATE Placement & Test-Out Procedures. Thank you for your support of our students as they have started off the school year.
Next Friday, October 4th is our annual GATE Fun Run! Our wonderful PTO is hard at work getting ready for this fundraiser. Please check the PTO section of this edition of the Gazette for the links to donate to the fundraiser. This is our main fundraiser for the year and contributes to the many fun things we get to do for the students and staff each school year. The funds go toward school programs/assemblies, educational enhancements in the classroom, staff and school spending requests. The more we raise, the more we can do! Please see below for more information and times that your student will be running. We welcome parents/guardians, but please remember you must bring your driver's license to be cleared through the office.
I wanted to send a big thank you to all those who drop off and pick up students. Our arrival and dismissal times can get a bit hectic with all of the traffic but in the last couple of weeks pickup and drop off have gotten better and will get even smoother as our afterschool clubs started this week. Thank you so much for your patience and consideration of others as you navigate the parking lot!
Have a wonderful weekend!

National Hispanic Heritage Month
9/15-10/15
Hispanic Heritage Month is a month-long celebration of Hispanic and Latino history and culture.
The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15. During this time, extra recognition is given to the many contributions made to the history and culture of the United States, including important advocacy work, vibrant art, popular and traditional foods, and much more.

Positivity Project Trait of the Week!
Dear Families,
Next week, our school will focus on the character strength of Open-Mindedness. This means being willing to consider new ideas and try new things. It involves looking at situations from all sides and not jumping to conclusions.
Open-mindedness is about seeking out and fairly weighing evidence, even if it goes against our own opinions or goals. Open-minded people listen to different viewpoints, including those that are less popular. They are often good listeners and provide balanced advice, which makes them great friends and confidants. This strength helps individuals form meaningful and lasting relationships.
To practice and encourage the character strength of open-mindedness at home, please visit the Positivity Project’s mobile-friendly P2 for Families. There, you will watch a video clip together and discuss a quote and three questions related to open-mindedness.
Thank you for your support!

2024 M-Step Parent Report
If your child is currently in grades 4th-8th, attended GATE for the 2023-2024 school year and took the spring 2024 M-Step at GATE, their 2024 M-Step Parent Report will come home in their Friday folder on Friday, September 27th. All others who are looking for their child's 2024 M-Step Parent Report should contact the school their child attended in the school year of 2023-2024.
Lost and Found
Our lost and found has grown considerably in the last couple of weeks! Please be sure that your student's belongings are marked clearly with their name so that when things get lost we can return it to the owner. If you child is missing any items, please encourage them to look through the lost and found.
Spirit Week
Homecoming
An important event in our Avondale Community is the Homecoming Parade, followed by the Football game. The Homecoming Parade is Thursday, October 10th. We would love for GATE to be represented in the parade with a float. The overall theme is "A Night in the City." Each school in the district is choosing a city from around the world. Some of the selections so far are: New York, Honolulu, Houston, and Las Vegas. Stay tuned for GATE's city selection.
GATE has selected Orlando for a Disney Theme. We are looking for parent volunteers to help us build a float for the parade. We are also in need of candy and/or any other small Disney trinket that students can to toss to on lookers as we walk in the parade.
Please contact the school if you would like to volunteer or donate. Thank you.
