Trojan Families,
Congratulations to the 5th graders for having the least amount of tardies and the best attendance. Will anyone be able to beat 5th grade before the year is out? Stay tuned to find out.
This edition of the Mills Moments has information about the kindergarten and fifth grade celebrations, volunteering opportunities, teacher recognition, middle school softball tryouts, and much more.

Congratulations, Ms. Graf
Ms. Graf was awarded a $300 grant from Western Governors University where she is pursuing her master's degree. She was presented with the surprise award on Tuesday, May 16. The $300 grant is awarded to teachers who have innovative ideas that will further engage students. Ms. Graf said, "the grant proposal was for a classroom set of Kendamas which is a Japanese skill toy that improves hand eye coordination, balance, reflex, growth mindset, and focus. My class enjoys learning new tricks and encouraging their peers to keep trying and show perserverance." Ms. Graf is so excited to have a classroom set so students can all practice together.
PTA Announcement
Thank you to everyone who attended last week's Buy One, Get One Free Scholastic Book Fair. We sold about $6,000 worth of books, trinkets, and posters. A big thank you to all of the students, families, and friends of John Mills for making the book fair a huge success!
The PTA thanks you for your support this school year because we sold over $24,500 worth of books and earned over $10,000 worth of Scholastic Rewards. With those rewards, the John Mills PTA purchased Birthday Books which allows each enrolled student the ability to add a book of thier choice to their at home library during birthday month and before the summer break. We also purchased a variety of cushions, bean bag chairs, and climbing mats for the new media center. We used the rest of the rewards to purchase folders to hang from the back of chairs so that students are organized and prepared, and ready to learn. In addition, we purchased 100 desk bouncy bands to allow the kids to have an outlet for excessive energy while in the classroom. We are extremely delighted to share all of these incredible items we were able to purchase to enhance all of our kids learning environment with your support.
Of course, none of this could have been possible without the brave parents of John Mills students who volunteered their time to help students pick books and send them home with (hopefully) money to spare.
We are always in need of parents and family members to help keep these activities going and support our school and children.
Thank you to all of John Mills community,

No Dogs or Pets Allowed on School Property
There have been a number of parents voicing concern about other parents bringing dogs and/or other pets to school at drop off and pick up. We encourage everyone to be aware of the student handbook stating, "Do not bring animals to school. This includes bringing pets including dogs when dropping off or picking up your children."
Please be respectful to each other to provide a safe and comfortable environment for all. Thank you for your cooperation.
