The First Day of School
By: Evelyn Griffin, CCS Senior
As summer vacation ends and the school section comes back to your local Walmart, a familiar mixture of both anxiety and excitement begins to stir. The first day of school is a very important day for first impressions. Whether you’re a parent, a student, or an educator, the first day is a significant milestone that sets the tone for the rest of your academic year.
I would describe the first day of school as often a whirlwind. Students most often have feelings of excitement and nervousness as they pack their backpacks with their fresh supplies for their new classes. Parents run back and forth taking pictures and making sure their children are ready to leave the house on time for their first day. As each student arrives at school, some might be greeted with familiar faces from the previous year, while others may be new and not know anyone. Meeting new teachers and classmates can be both thrilling and daunting. As the first day progresses, students participate in orientation activities, classroom tours, and introductory lessons that help them adjust to their new routines. The teachers and staff at Cullman Christian School work to be very diligent in creating a welcoming and engaging environment within the classroom by preparing introductory activities that help students get to know each other and begin to build a sense of community.
As the day ends, students prepare to go home and share about their day full of new experiences and information and take time to acknowledge each of their individual achievements. Maybe your child made a new friend. Maybe they were a friend to someone in need. Maybe your child learned something they found intriguing. Maybe they taught someone else something new. Maybe your child simply survived the day or helped someone survive the day. Each student's experiences differ depending on who they are as a person and what their goals are. Whether student or teacher at CCS, we all have a common goal: to be hands and feet of Christ.
In a Christian school setting, spreading the gospel is deeply integrated into the educational experience, reflecting the institution’s mission to nurture both academic and spiritual growth. As the body of Cullman Christian School, we strive to live every day in the path of Christ. We, as His people, must do everything in our power to spread the word of God in hopes of bringing people together.
“May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.” Romans 15: 5-7

Learn the Doxology
Each morning students, teachers and staff sing the doxology together. If you don't know it yet, your child will be singing it to you before you know it! It is a great exercise in remembering to praise our heavenly father.
Praise God from whom all blessings flow.
Praise Him all creatures here below.
Praise Him above ye heavenly host.
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
Amen.

Welcome Back!
It was a wonderful first week having all of our students and families back on campus to start the new year. There are a few changes this year with location and logistics, but God is blessing CCS! For example, the space pictured here is where the upper school students get to have morning devotion and weekly chapel. The staff at Desperation Church have been so helpful and have allowed us to use their video and audio equipment for these special meeting times.
Art for Everyone!
Art classes are always a hit! We are so thankful that every student gets to have art class with Mrs. Griffin each week. This is a great time and way for students to express creativity, de-stress, and expand learning.
Learning Through Play
Preschoolers love center time! These interactive learning experiences are such an important part of social, emotional, and academic development. Play time in centers encourages creativity and imagination.
Back in the Swing of Things
Lower school students are doing a fantastic job getting back in the routine of the school day! They are eager to learn and ready to learn new things this year.
Backpacks, Water Bottles, and Lunch Boxes
The students are doing an excellent job so far managing their backpacks, water bottles, and lunch boxes! If you ever forget to pack something they need, call the office and let us know or drop it by and we will get it to them.
PE is For More than Just Fun
Students in PE classes work each day to learn more about healthy habits, taking care of their bodies, exercising their muscles, and working with their peers. The students are loving activities on the new wood floor. As a reminder, be sure to outfit your student in proper tennis shoes for PE time.
Chapel Time
Every student at CCS enjoys and participates in a weekly chapel time. During chapel, students sing worship songs, hear a message from a teacher or guest, and follow along in their bibles for the scripture references. This extra time each week helps bring together the topics covered daily in Bible class as our students learn and grow in their faith in Christ.
Drop Off & Pick Up
Morning drop offs and afternoon pick ups are going pretty smooth considering the increased number of cars this year! Thank you to everyone for your patience as we become more efficient in this task.
*Idea for families picking up at both locations: Since the last 30 minutes at the upper school is study time, if you would like to pick up at the Depot campus first, then go over to Beech, it might save you some time in the end.
Measuring by God's Standards
This week in upper school chapel Mr. Yearwood talked to students about what it means to have a Biblical worldview and how important it is to see God as our authority to measure by. The students were good sports as they participated in silly illustrations on measurement.
Volleyball Season Underway
Our Youth Volleyball teams have started the season strong! Congratulations to all the teams on a successful day on Saturday. We love seeing you compete, but we love seeing you show Christlike attitudes on and off the court best!

A few more items...
Lobster Shirts
CCS has a new gym floor! The floor was previously owned by the Maine Celtics, a feeder team to the Boston Celtics. Their logo, which is still on the floor until refinishing, is a giant green lobster.
Our CCS mascot is still a LION, and the lobster will soon be gone, but we think it's fun to embrace it for just a little while. After all..... the Crimson Tide has an elephant, the Auburn Tigers have an eagle, so why can't the Cullman Christian Lions have a lobster?
Just for fun and to commemorate this event, for a limited time, CCS Lobster T-shirts will be available for $15. Order online at https://www.cullmanchristian.org/spiritwear
CCS Caps
The Archery Team is selling CCS caps for $25. Contact Mrs. Nikki Ayers to order.
CCS Apparel Store

Pickleball, Basketball, Ping-Pong, and More
The upper school students are loving the chance to stretch their legs during break and lunch. At the Depot campus the students are being allowed to use the games and facilities in the DC Student Center.
The Local
We love The Local! The staff at the DC Student Center have been so amazing to work with. They are so patient and kind to our students.
*Parents of Upper School Students: If you are allowing your student to purchase from The Local, don't forget that they can get 20% off latte purchases with a CCS Spirit Card.
Teacher Newsletters
The ROAR is a great place to get an overview of what's happening at CCS, but please don't forget to look at specific information for your child's class that will come directly from your child's teacher. This information may come in the form of a newsletter, an email, or even a Google classroom.
Refer to your child's teacher(s) for more information.
