Principal's Message
BELONG ~ BELIEVE ~ ACHIEVE
Hello, Wildcat Families and Students!
Thank you for all of our families who joined us at the Padres game, Board Meeting to watch our Wildcats sing, Lunch on the Lawn, and our Plume and Brew fundraiser over the last couple of weeks! Also, thank you families for helping your Wildcat participate in our first Spirit Week. We had so many creative students show off their spirit attire!
- As a reminder, Sullivan will not be accepting third party deliveries for any students. Lunch on the Lawn is for Parents and guardians to spend time with their Wildcat during the school day and enjoy lunch together. I have schedule this once a month so families could make plans to attend as many as they would like. Please refer to the student and parent handbook for more information or you may call the office. Thank you in advance.
- We need 2 parents for our School Site Council: Please check the information below for more details! I have fixed the nomination form and it should be accessible now. Thank you parents!
- ZERO PERIOD PE HAS STARTED!
We are so excited to be able to offer our students a zero period PE so they can have an added elective. Thank you to Mr. Patterson, the high school PE teacher, who has offered to teach our zero period PE. Many of our Wildcats will now be able to participate in chosen electives while still participating in their required academic electives. We are still accepting names if your Wildcat would like to take PE during our Zero Period PE. please email Mrs. Gresbrink at keri.gresbrink@bonsallusd.com
Thank you so much.
- Thank you families for helping with the pick up and drop off of our Wildcats! We appreciate you!
- Please make sure to check out the lunch clubs and sports calendar for upcoming events.
- Attention parents, we need your help with checking your Wildcat's computer at home!
We have updated our online alert system to help us monitor inappropriate computer usage to help keep our students and school safe. Administration has been receiving alerts over the weekend about inappropriate usage on the school computers. Please know that any words that are searched and can be considered a threat alert the program to send us the information. For example, so of the video games the students are looking up have threatening words which alert the system and school. We need your help to monitor this at home. Thank you in advance for your help.

CONSELOR CORNER: SUICIDE PREVENTION MONTH
Parents and Guardians,
September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. Youth suicide is a preventable public health problem, and educators and schools are key to prevention. Together we can Take Action for Suicide Prevention by knowing the signs for suicide, finding the words to check-in with someone we are concerned about, and reaching out to resources. This week our counselor Ms. Gresbrink, went into classes to discuss suicide prevention.
Visit www.suicideispreventable.org for more information.
I have also included a link below to NAMI, an organization that works to ensure individuals, friends and families shift public perception, spread hope and share vital information to people affected by suicide. Their goal is ensuring that individuals, friends and families have access to the resources they need to discuss suicide prevention and to seek help.

Together we can help those in need!

SPORTS
CROSSCOUNTRY UPDATES FROM COACH PIPE!
Hello all on a lovely Fall afternoon,
I've attached the recap of the race results from San Elijo Middle School. As expected, and as the runners had a race under their belts along with additional practices, the per mile times are starting to drop for the majority of runners. They understand how to run a race in terms of pacing, when to hit the 'go' button and pick things up, and the determination/competitiveness juices are ramping up (and watching the final straight with full-on sprints to overtake other runners...yep, the competitive juices are flowing.) Along with the team spirit and encouragement they are giving each other -it's good to see.
A couple of other issues to comment on:
- Sickness -there is a respiratory 'thing' going around (I lost count at 8 of the kiddos having it). The key will be to ease them back into things when they feel better. Their bodies are still in recovery mode and easing in, rather than throwing them into training, is the best approach to get them back to normal.
- Head, shoulders, knees and toes. At last count there were 6 runners with sore knees and kneecaps and a 5-6 with ankle and shin nags. There are multiple causes: a.) strength of their quads to ensure the knee is tracking correctly, b.) growth -basically their joints, or joint, catching up to the rest of their body and coping with growth. There are a lot of ligaments, cartilage, and tendons that all have to cooperate/play nice, and grow at the same rate and often they don't (I have very un-fond memories of the aches and pains when I was growing.) So, we do wall-sits and step-ups to strengthen their knees, make sure their shoes are properly tied so feet aren't wiggling around (hard to believe but true) and monitor how they are feeling. As with any ankle, knee, and muscle issue -Ice (cubes in a sandwich bag or a bag of frozen peas) on the area for 15 mins, off for 15 mins and do this 3-4 times per day. Gentle stretching and gentle massage of the area, and ibuprofen. The key is consistency.
Our next meet is this Thursday at San Marcos Middle School. Early release at 2:00, the race order will remain the same -8th Girls, 8th Boys, 6/7 Girls, and 6/7 Boys. The first race will start at approximately 4:10. Please let me know in advance if your student isn't running as I have to submit rosters by Tuesday evening and if your student needs a ride as we have a couple of parents who are approved (HUGE thank-you.)
Lastly, I'm really enjoying the Friday am practices (I know, royal pain) but there was a great buzz with the 20+ kids that attended. We looked at the race results from the prior day (they were still amp'ed about the meet), the mist kept things nice and cool, a nice, gentle stretch to get the ya-ya's out, Wildcat Laps in reverse (to change things up) and post practice banana bread. The chatter and socializing is great to see so thank you for going through the unpleasantness of an early start...
Have a great week,
Ennis

General information about Sullivan's sports program.
We are so fortunate to have many sport opportunities for our Wildcats! As part of our program I have listed some information about all of our sports to help families understand the commitment involved and expectations.
- Coaches will determine practices. Most varsity sports will practice everyday after school and JV can be everyday or a few times a week.
- Parents will need to pick up their student and drive them to the games and pick them up from the games. We currently do not have transportation for our sports teams.
- Mrs. Breuninger, the middle school and high school athletic director, has done a great job of ordering new sports equipment, gear, and uniforms. There is no cost to play, but we have been asking parents for donations to help with the cost of our sports program. Thank you in advance.
If you can be a driver to away games, please make sure you complete the volunteer packet, including TB test and fingerprinting and the transportation form. We are always looking for drivers for MS sports as we do not have bus transportation. You must be a cleared driver in order to transport any other student than your own - EVEN IF YOU NORMALLY CARPOOL OR ARE A CONTACT WITH THAT STUDENT - as this is a school sanctioned activity.
Please contact Office Manager, Linda Pipe if you have questions about volunteering and drivi

Grief Support Group at School in Partnership with The Elizabeth Hospice
Grief Support Group at School in Partnership with The Elizabeth Hospice
Creating a safe and meaningful space for students to share about their loved one who has died provides an opportunity to gain support from peers who have a shared experience. There are many benefits to facilitating a grief support group at school. These include students learning about grief and loss, developing coping skills and tools, honoring and memorializing loved ones, and sharing grief experiences with peers.
What to expect?
• Each group will have 8-15 students at your school site.
• Each person in the group has also experienced the death of a loved one.
• Group will run for 7-8 weeks, meeting weekly during school.
• Each group follows the same structure: an opening exercise, an activity to write and/or draw about loved ones and grief experiences, an opportunity to share, a closing.
• Group is meant to be a safe space where children can share their feelings, thoughts, memories, experiences about their loved one and grief as well as who and what supports them in coping with their grief.
To ensure the participation for your student, please sign the authorization link below. One form per student is required. Our team will confirm receipt of consent. For any other questions, please reach out to Kyliegh Fox, School Psychologist, at kyliegh.fox@bonsallusd.com.
LOVE ON YOUR BACK
About Love On Your Back
Love On Your Back was founded by Carol Wood, a teacher who taught in the Bonsall School District for 32 years. Upon retirement, Carol started the non-profit organization, along with the help of many others, to address the issue of Bonsall students who may have minimal access to food. The backpack program supplements food for low income families or children whose families are in crisis. These students rely on free or reduced breakfasts and lunches at their schools. Love On Your Back supplements these children by filling backpacks with nutritional food to last over the weekend when they are not in school. It is our belief that children need proper nutrition in order to learn. The goal of Love On Your Back is to fill that need for any student in the Bonsall Unified School District who is food compromised. No child should go hungry.
If you want to register for our program, please do so at your child's school in the front office. All children in the family can be registered on one application.
PARENT VOLUNTEERS
Hello AMAZING Wildcat Families!
Welcome to the 2024-2025 School Year. As you know we are always needing Parent volunteers. The Volunteer Packet must be completed every school year. If you already have the Lifescan (fingerprints) with BUSD, you do not need to get new ones. If your TB test is over 3 years old, we will be asking you for an updated negative TB Test result. You will need both of these extra forms along with the volunteer form to volunteer on campus or on field trips where you will be or could be alone with students. If you would be open to being a driver for sports, we will need all of the above and the drivers form.
I've attached all the forms to this email. Please feel free to complete them and scan them back to me..
Please let us know if you have questions. You can reach our AMAZING OFFICE MANAGER, LINDA PIPE at linda.pipe@bonsallusd.com
Thanks for all you do,

Secured Campus Information
ATTENTION PARENTS!
Only emergency vehicles, buses, those with handicap placards, and those with other special placards have access to the upper lot, emergency lane closest to the front of our schools. You will need to show your placard to Campus Security.
We ask that If you have a parking pass because your student received the ROAR Award for that month you may continue to have access to the upper lot at the end of the school day. Please do not park in the bus lanes or block the handicap spaces.
This decision to enforce our existing parking lot plan aligns with the recommendations of our community safety partners and will increase our ability to maintain a safe and secure site:
- When dropping students off, please use the lower levels of the parking lot.
- When visiting either the middle or the high school office, please park in the lower levels, bring your ID to the front, and check in with the appropriate staff.
Gates accessing the upper lane will continue to be closed to secure the campus. We appreciate your partnership and support in our efforts to provide the highest levels of safety for our students
