Community Check-In
North Rockland Central School District
North Rockland Families:
This week was one filled with so much community.
With fun and competitive nights like the Student Faculty Basketball Game, NR Staff and SPPD vs. the Harlem Wizards, The District Bee and the first ever NR Athletics Unified Bowling match, the third week of March seemed to fly by.
One thing I really appreciate and am constantly impressed by is the way this strong, caring community shows up for our students. From the owners of Breakpoint Bowling setting the stage and cheering for the Red Raiders as they took on Ossining to the Stony Point Police and PAL welcoming and playing with our children at the Harlem Wizards face off and Dr. Seema Narang Dental sitting front row with her family applauding our grades 1-8 District Bee competitors (an event she has sponsored for 10 years) as they crushed each round, our learners really felt the phrase - We are NR.
To keep students excited about school, they need the support and help of the whole community. The often heard statement, “It takes a village to raise a child,” is very true here. I am so proud of the unique partnership and strong connection we have in North Rockland and so look forward to what’s ahead.
Congratulations to all those who made Honor Roll and Principals list this school year and to our Top 5% of the Class of 2023. It is an incredible accomplishment to achieve these honors and I hope each one of you knows how proud your teachers, coaches, parents, families, principals, administrators and Board of Education are of you.
Events in North Rockland are a place that everyone can come together to experience, celebrate and build social opportunities. We recognize that these after school occasions are a common ground where families can create treasured memories and see how we can all work collaboratively to create a better future for their children. Large-scale events like the ones we held each night this week help create opportunities for student-community participation, which is why in this District we work to have as many as we possibly can.
The next three months will be a busy time filled with many milestones, productions, events, competitions, extracurricular activities, learning, testing and engagement. Establishing student-led initiative in their education is key and can help your children take ownership, stay motivated and improve performance as they finish out the school year.
With that being said the District is always looking for ways to better communicate with and highlight our students - not just for their achievements but for their character. The world simply needs a platform that spreads the good. You will find below in today’s check-in the first Red Raider and Lady Raider of the Week - a segment we will now feature in each update recognizing our wonderful student-athletes as well as an in-depth video on the five languages offered at the secondary level.

NRCSD Language Offerings
Calling all 6th graders!
Hola! Bonjour! Ciao!
It's time to make your language selection for 7th grade! Upon entering 7th grade, students begin their study of a World Language.
In North Rockland taking another language opens a door to so many possibilities, teaches about culture and provides important experiences. Foreign language study enhances one's opportunities in virtually every sector like government, business, medicine, law, technology, military, industry, marketing, communications and beyond.
Students may choose between the five languages NRCSD Offers: Spanish, Spanish for Heritage Speakers, French, Italian and American Sign Language. The two-year course extends over 7th and 8th grade and upon successful completion of both years, students will earn 1 High School Credit! Event Highlights!
Class of 2023 Top 5%
High Five for the Top 5 %!
Today was a BIG day for our #NR Seniors. This morning, a crowd gathered into the NRHS auditorium to congratulate our Seniors who achieved Honor Roll, Principles Roll and the Top 5 %. Principal DaPonte highlighted the dedication and perseverance of these students both in and out of the classroom. A vast majority of these students participated in extracurricular activities, such as sports, honor societies, clubs, JROTC, and volunteering just to name a few. Each one of them embodies what it means to be a Red Raider. Full List Link.
NRHS Student Faculty Basketball Game
Faculty steals a win in overtime at the annual Student Vs. Faculty Benefit.
Last night the students squared off against their teachers, with the faculty coming out on top, although some would say it was rigged from the start. The student’s squad was missing many key athletes during the benefit. Although they did not participate, these athletes were on the sidelines cheering on their classmates. More photos.
2023 District Bee
"I figured out what Bee stands for ... BEST EVENT EVER!!"
And (drumroll please)... The 2023 NRCSD Spelling Bee Champion is Gabiella Daniels!
Daniels was crowned the winner Wednesday night after making it through numerous challenging rounds of competition against the top spellers and building level Bee Winners from all our elementary schools and middle school. The Farley Elementary Schooler’s triumph marks the conclusion of one of our favorite annual North Rockland in-person events until next year. More photos

The Harlem Wizards vs. NR was a SLAM DUNK!
The NRHS Annex gym was booming with oohs & aahs, laughter, enthusiasm and much much more as The Wizards took on our home team comprised of teachers, principals, Stony Point Police Department Officers and community leaders!
All the fans in the stands were treated to an epic game filled with skills, teamwork, slick dribbling, alley-oops and crazy slams. It was more than just a memorable basketball game, the night was funny, theatrical, exciting, spectacular and raised record funds for the Stony Point PAL. Thanks to everyone who came, helped organize and participated in the community event NR Strong and NR Together! More photos.

More Red Raider Headlines
The Red Raiders keep on rolling! It was a HUGE week for the red and white.
NR's first-ever Boys Basketball Section 1 Class AA championship!
The Varsity Boys Basketball team took home NR's first-ever Section 1 Class AA championship! The Red Raiders proved they have what it takes in last night's 52-40 win over Scarsdale.
“We thought maybe they had the potential to make a run like this," Red Raiders coach Jamie Ryan said of the win. “But there’s a point where it’s not up to the coaches and you need players to lead. Connor Wein and Elijah Barclay got us where we needed to go.”
Finishing with 13 points Connor Wein earned the tournament MVP title.
Next up: North Rockland will play Newburgh Free Academy (Section 9) or Elmira (Section 4) at 12 noon Saturday at Yorktown High School. More photos.

Raider Rescue 🐾
Giselle! 🐶
Meet Giselle!
Hi! My name is Giselle. I am about 2-3 years old. I am well behaved, take treats gently, love kids and all people. I am great with dogs smaller than me who are submissive. I am lovable and will spoil my new family with hugs and kisses. My foster mom says I am crate trained and fully potty trained. Because I still need to work on my jumpiness when I get excited, a home with older kids is preferred. I would be a great companion and would love to find my forever family. If you are interested in adopting, please visit www.hitor.org and fill out an application.
