OGMS Weekly Update

Hello Families,

Today we celebrated our students' talents & achievements. We were treated to a performance from our Beginning Dance class, which was full of energy. We recognized our amazing scholars that achieved the Honor Roll for Quarter 3 and our students with Perfect & Near Perfect Attendance for the whole year. Once again, our students & staff selected students to honor that demonstrate our Ockley Green Core Values of Care, Collaboration and Growth, as well as our OGMS Proud Awards for students demonstrating all three values.

This week, some of our staff and students also participated in the Fidelity of Implementation (FIT) assessment, which provides feedback to our team on how well our systems are functioning and how we can continue to improve. As part of this, the assessor interviewed a group of students. She shared that she was impressed with the thoughtfulness of their responses and that each of them agreed that they have more than one trusted adult in the building that they can connect with when needing support. That made my day! I love hearing about students that are experiencing a sense of belonging here at Ockley Green!

On April 15th, OGMS students will begin their Oregon Statewide Assessment System (OSAS) tests. The OSAS tests are summative measures of students' reading, math and science knowledge. This information is used for instruction, curricula, support services, and many other aspects of our operations. More specifically, at Ockley, this information is used to: create our yearly academic goals, determine the staffing supports based on cohort needs, and design teacher professional development. The week of April 14th, students will complete their Language Arts test and the week of April 21st will be focused on Math.

We hope your student can get good sleep and come ready next week to demonstrate all the amazing things they’ve learned. Please make sure your child brings their charged chromebook starting Monday April 15th.

We are responsible for students once they leave home and until their return home. Once a student gets off the bus or is dropped off at Ockley in the morning, they are considered to be at school. Thus, as a closed campus, they are not allowed to walk to New Seasons or other locations. We have had an uptick in students walking to the store prior to the start of the school day and returning late. If you wish to have your student pick up food in the morning, then you will need to drop them off at New Seasons and then they can walk to school from there. Our expectation is that they arrive to school on time and be in class at the 9:15 bell. Thank you for your support with helping us to keep our students safe.
