Dear Families,
February is here, bringing exciting activities and opportunities for our students! This month, we are celebrating I Love to Read Month, encouraging a love for reading through special events and classroom activities. We invite you to join us in making reading a fun and meaningful experience at home as well. Winterfest Week is during the first week of February with fun dress up day for staff and students! We will also have our annual Title I PK-5 Family Fun Night on Thursday, February 20 from 5:00-7:00 PM! Another highlight this month is our Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast, a fun tradition inspired by Dr. Seuss. Families are invited to join their students for breakfast on Friday, February 28 from 7:30-8:30 AM. Sign-up forms have been sent home with students and we hope that you can join us!
Many thanks to families and friends who are supporting our classrooms and general school funding through the online SchoolStore. This is available year-round to help support our school to find out more or if you would like share this with others, please click on the link in this newsletter or on our school webpage.
Kindergarten Round-Up is right around the corner and will be held on Wednesday, March 12. This is an opportunity for parents to visit classrooms, meet the teachers, and register their student/s for the 2025-2026 school year! Kindergarten packets will be sent home and registration information can be found in this newsletter and on our Riverside webpage!
As always, we appreciate your support in making school a great place for our students. We look forward to a fantastic month of learning and fun!

"I LOVE TO READ" MONTH
Dear Parents,
Riverside staff and students will be celebrating βI Love to Readβ month in February with the theme Reading Around the World.
We would like to help you promote reading at home. Your child will have a weekly reading goal. You or your child should record the number of minutes read on the globes of the βReading Around the Worldβ calendar. Return the calendar to school on February 28th. Students who meet their reading goals will receive a small prize at the end of the month.
There will also be dress up days on Tuesdays in February.

February 11th: Traveler/Tourist Day- Dress like a traveler or tourist in another country
February 18th: Read Your Shirt Day- Wear a shirt with words. Bonus points if the words are in a different language
February 25th: Colors of the World Day- Each grade will wear the colors of a North American Country.

1st Grade: Mexico (red, green, and white)
2nd Grade: Jamaica (green, yellow, and black)

MTSS UPDATE
MTSS: Multi-Tiered Systems and Supports - A tiered framework that focuses on the whole child to provide academic, behavioral, and social-emotional support for all students.
TIER 1: General academic and behavioral support, differentiated for all students in a general education setting.
Tier 2: Evidence-based support and interventions for students who are identified as at risk. Typically implemented in small group settings.
Tier 3: Evidence-based supports and interventions for students who have not responded to Tier 2 support. Tier 3 supports provide more frequent, intensive, and individualized interventions.

At Riverside Elementary we have the following Tiered framework supports:

Tier 2: Title I Reading, Math Interventions (Grades 2 & 3), Reading Corps., Behavior Charts, Check-In Check-Out (CICO), Differentiated Instruction in Small Groups
Tier 3: Referral to Student Success Team (SST). Possible outcomes may include further interventions, Behavior Intervention Plan, Special Education or 504 referral, or Greater Minnesota referral.

Kindness & Mixing: Celebrating Our Differences
In February, students will explore "Kindness & Mixing: Celebrating Individuality and Differences." This month focuses on fostering empathy, kindness, and building strong friendships. The theme encourages students to engage in acts of kindness, create meaningful connections through friendship bracelets, and reflect on their gratitude through journals. Emphasis will be on intentionally showing kindness, celebrating each other's uniqueness, and embracing the diversity within their community.
Focus Areas:
Empathy: Understanding and sharing the feelings of others.
Acts of Kindness: Encouraging students to perform kind acts for others.
Building Friendships: Helping students develop and maintain strong, supportive friendships.
Celebrating Individuality and Differences: Recognizing and valuing the uniqueness of each individual.
