News for September 12, 2024
As a mom and an educator, a social media post with any reference of violence to schools is upsetting. With the recent tragedy of another school shooting in Georgia on September 4, it is understandable that we are all sensitive to this. Seeing Edgerton's school name on a list of schools makes it extra concerning.
I want to acknowledge the fear this caused for families, staff and students. We were all in a position of uncertainty about the who and the why of the social media post. I take it seriously that our students and staff come to school fear, anxiety and other emotions. I wish this was not the reality for our community.
I also want to thank the many community members that reported the posts. Last night I heard from current and former Edgerton families. Students that attended Edgerton years ago and still care about us. Community members and staff. This matters. And I truly appreciate the genuine care and concern.
In light of the broad nature of the threats, communication was sent from Roseville Area Schools rather than directly from me or Edgerton. The named Roseville schools worked together with law enforcement and the school district managed threat-related communication. I am grateful for the collaboration and support of Roseville Police and our Roseville district leaders.
Fortunately, the police have located a juvenile and have deemed the posts a hoax. I know that this doesn't immediately erase all fear. If you or your child would like to talk about this further, please reach out.
Lastly, thank you to the incredible Edgerton staff who showed up today with love and care for your children. They are amazing. And I know we will be ready to welcome all tomorrow.

Vision Screening
Students will have their vision screened at the school next week in accordance with MDH guidelines. The screening will be performed by the school nurse using a photo screener. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the nurse (contact information below). If the screening is passed with no concerns, you will not hear back about the results. If the screening shows that a comprehensive eye exam is recommended, the results and the recommendation will be sent home with the student.
We are delighted that Helen Keller International's Sight for School program will be returning this year to Edgerton on 10/2 and 10/3 to provide free eye exams and glasses. More information will be shared about that program later in September. If you have concerns about your child's vision and do not receive a follow up letter, please contact the nurse and results can be provided.
A school-wide hearing screening will not be performed. The school nurse can perform a hearing screening for your student at any time upon request.
