* We love our school board at GISD. Please be sure to thank them for serving in these very important roles.
School Board Appreciation Month
January is designated as School Board Appreciation Month. At the January board meeting we were honored to recognize our Gunter ISD School Board Members. Thank you to the GISD Board Members for all of your time and effort you put into the district to make it the best in Texas!
Coach Applewhite's Outdoor Education class prepared a steak dinner for the board members to enjoy prior to the meeting. It looked and smelled wonderful!
To show their appreciation, each campus gifted baskets and cards to each member of the board; some items were student created and others were purchased.Thank you to everyone who made this night so special for the board.
The main function of a school board is to provide local, citizen governance and oversight of education. Though ultimate responsibility for education rests with the state, Texas has delegated much of the authority to local communities who elect their local school trustees to govern the school district.
The idea behind this structure of shared responsibility is that, while some education policy issues are best addressed at the state level, others are far better addressed by your local community.

Thank you to our school board members who give their time selflessly to this district.

Thank YOU for supporting the Gunter GIFT BINGO Night
Message from GIFT...
Wow, what an amazing night! We are thrilled to announce that, thanks to our incredible sponsors, generous prize donors, and enthusiastic attendees, we raised an incredible $20,050 through sponsorships and bingo!
This event was more than just a fundraiser—it was a celebration of community. The energy and excitement in the room were contagious as attendees had a blast playing bingo and touring our beautiful new elementary school campus. It’s heartwarming to see how much pride and support surrounds our schools and students.

To the incredible volunteers, staff, and everyone who pitched in to make the night run smoothly—thank you for your time, dedication, and hard work. You are the heartbeat of this community.
To everyone who joined us, played bingo, and supported GIFT, we are so grateful. Your participation and contributions help us continue making a meaningful impact.

Distracted Driving Presentation @ GHS
Gunter High School will be hosting a distracted driving presentation by Baylor Scott & White on February 12th titled, "Impact Teen Drivers". Students will attend the presentation in two groups, 9th and 10th grade, and then 11th and 12th grade.
Impact Teen Drivers develops, promotes, and facilitates evidence-based education to stop the number one killer of teens--car crashes, particularly those caused by reckless and distracted driving.
This program is high energy and interactive! Statistics and facts about reckless and distracted driving will be shared. We think every student should be present to listen to and participate in this presentation because this is something that affects each and every one of them. However, if you would like to opt your child out of the presentation, there will be a form sent through Parent Square on the Monday prior to the presentation for you to fill out.
Professional Development - First Aid
The "pressure was on" as our staff learned how to deal with different types of bleeding during Professional Development. Baylor, Scott & White team members presented "Stop the Bleed" and then took the faculty through some simulations to control the bleed in various types of wounds.
Thank you, Chief Satre, for setting up this valuable training.

Congratulations to Brittni Rumage & Shannon Parker! They are our Crystal Apple Awardees for the 2nd 9 weeks

Classroom Highlights!
The 5 Senses - Poetry with Popcorn
2nd graders began their unit on poetry and their teachers found a unique way to have the students collect some adjectives to use in their poems.
Students gathered around a popcorn machine and watched and listened to the machine as it began to work. At this point, we're sure the words were "popping" into their head as well! After smelling the wonderful aroma, they were given some popcorn to feel with their fingers and taste with their tongue. Back in the classroom, the student's brains were filled with adjectives to conquer their task of writing a poem about the five senses.
Lunar Landers in 3rd Grade
3rd graders in Mrs. Harper and Mrs. Pelzel’s science class have been learning all about the solar system. During STEM Friday, students were tasked to create a lunar lander that successfully landed their two "marshmallow astronauts" on the “moon” without falling out of their lander. Students had to design and create the lander for this challenge. All had a great time!
Data Analysis
Learning to analyze data might seem a little boring UNLESS you are in Mrs. Smith's 4th grade class at GES! Students created a question and surveyed their class to collect data. They then analyzed the data and created a frequency table, dot plot, and stem and leaf plot. Lastly, students answered the data analysis questions on the back using the data they collected. Yes, we said 4th Grade!!!
Great job, students!
Solar System
It's almost like we are standing in the dark and looking into the great night sky! Mrs. Harper and Mrs. Pelzel’s 3rd graders have been learning all about the solar system and created some amazing projects showing us all of the planets.Great job!
Middle School
Students of the Month
Congratulations to the January Students of the Month! We love seeing students work hard and show kindness. Students chosen for this honor have that "never give up attitude" and will always stay positive and polite in the classroom.
Congratulations to:
5th Grade: Billy Stewart
6th Grade: Emily Smith
7th Grade: Kennedy Gartrell
8th Grade: Noah Burtsfield
Perfect Attendance Awards
These students achieved perfect attendance during the 2nd nine week grading period of school and chose a Sonic drink as their reward! We also had many other students select from a variety of coupon rewards as an incentive to encourage attendance. Thank you all for your hard work and dedication!
Classroom Highlights!
Be My Valentine!
Did you know there are currently 1.3 million residents who live in nursing homes, assisted living, and memory care? Sixty percent of these residents do not receive regular visitors. They are lonely and feel forgotten. We can change this!
The 6th grade GT class is planning a service project to spread some happiness to the residents of Tribute Senior Living in Prosper. They are collecting boxes of chocolate and small stuffed animals for the residents.
Please hep us reach our goal! The collection ends on February 11th. Any donations may be dropped off in the GMS office. Students will deliver the gifts to the residents on or near Valentines Day. We are sure that each of the 80 residents will be grateful to receive such a thoughtful gift.
GMS STC Students Tour the Fire House!
Mr. Small and his students traveled over to City Hall and the Gunter Fire Station to learn more about our wonderful community!
Gunter Mayor, Mrs. Souther, and her team of city employees were so kind and welcoming to the class. They prepared a tour of the fire facilities, met with firefighters, and had a question/answer session with their team. Our students asked questions and then the fire fighters asked the students "Gunter Trivia" for prizes. Our students were amazed when the firefighters put on a special demonstration, in full gear, using the jaws of life!
During the experience, students also met the city secretary and the director of parks/streets and development.
Thank you, Mayor Souther, GVFD, and city employees for making our outing so enlightening.

Fine Arts
Unconventional Art
Art isn't always a simple paintbrush and paint... Art 2 students are currently using unconventional materials to make artwork, such as coffee, tea, skittles, raspberries and mustard while using skateboard wheels as their tool to paint. They are also using natural materials to create some awesome collages. Buttons and aquarium pebbles also proved to be a beautiful art medium! See? You can find art in almost anything!
Area Band Contest Results
- Maddox Wagoner - Ranked 1st of 11 - Qualified for STATE Band
