NEW STUDENTS' FIRST DAY, AUGUST 14th
The first day of school for all students who are new to Compass Academy, regardless of grade level, is Wednesday, August 14th. Instead of having a separate orientation day, the first day of school will provide all students who are new to Compass the opportunity to receive an overview of how things work at Compass, including transportation, lunch, flex, and Experiential Learning Wednesdays, while being introduced to the systems and procedures that are unique to Compass. This will be an early release day (the only one all year at Compass), so all students who end their day at Compass will be dismissed at 2:15 pm. Compass students who end their day at East/North will be dismissed at that building's early dismissal time.
Students will have the opportunity to meet their teachers, get an introduction to competency-based assessment and project-based learning, and get an overview of what to expect in each seminar, advisory, and independent study. There will also be dedicated time for them to do all of the things that are typically done at Orientation, such as receiving Chromebooks (if needed), exploring learning spaces, selecting a locker, and receiving some Compass spirit items. There will be Student Leaders in attendance as well to answer questions from the student perspective and to help explain various elements of school that are different at Compass Academy.
Returning Compass Academy students who are not Student Leaders will have an Experiential Learning Wednesday on August 14th, so their first day of in-person attendance will be Thursday, August 15th.
Students who are being dropped off for school should be dropped off near the Compass Academy main entrance (door 1). Upon arriving and entering the building, students will be directed to the community room by staff members and Student Leaders. Students who are driving to school and who have applied for a parking pass may park in one of the spots designated for student parking along 9th Street.

TRANSPORTATION
Starting with the 2024-2025 school year, you can find your student's bus route information through Home Access Center (HAC). Bus routes are now available for viewing by following these steps:
1. Log in to HAC using your username and password.
2. Once you are logged in, click on the Registration tab at the top of the page.
3. Scroll down to find the section titled "School Transportation." This will provide information on pickup and drop off times, as well as bus stop location.
Call (331)228-5180 if you have any questions.
All eligible Compass Academy students will receive District 303 transportation both to and from school and between school buildings if they are taking classes at their home high school or Fox Valley Career Center. The regular Compass shuttle bus from East/North to Compass after 2nd period may not appear in HAC, but all Compass students may take this shuttle as needed. There is also a shuttle at the 2:10 Compass dismissal to take students back to East/North for athletics and other extracurricular activities.

CITY OF ST. CHARLES JOB SHADOWING PROGRAM
Are you interested in learning about the various career options available in St. Charles? Through the city's career pathway job shadow program, Compass students can shadow people in many career fields, including office administration, communications, accounting, firefighting, government, law enforcement, construction, forestry, water management, and vehicle maintenance. Students who participate in job shadowing during the school year, and then write reflections about their experiences, have the opportunity to earn credit for Career Exploration.
For more information about this opportunity, students should scan the appropriate QR code on the bulletin board in the academic hall or make an appointment to see Ms. Ohlson, the Compass counselor.
