Kierstyn Stankevich
by Claire Wright
Kierstyn Stankevich is currently a senior at Dryden, where she has been a student for three years. She is involved in volleyball, basketball, and soccer, and her favorite aspect of Dryden is the sports programs. Outside of school, Kierstyn enjoys participating in sports. Her dream career is to work at Tesla, and she plans to attend college after high school.
Jaxon Hearold

Jaxon Hearold is currently an eighth grader at Dryden, having started at the school last year. He is actively involved in basketball and Link Crew, with his favorite aspect of Dryden being his friends. Outside of school, Jaxon enjoys playing video games. While he’s not entirely certain about his dream career, he’s considering something related to engineering. As for plans after high school, he is still figuring things out. One thing he’s especially looking forward to is attending events like Homecoming. Additionally, Jaxon is excited to share that he is about to get his first car, a 1969 Ford F100!

Varsity Volleyball

On Tuesday, Dryden faced Mayville, securing a 3-0 sweep with scores of 25-16, 25-18, and 25-22. Mikayla Fleming stood out with 17 points and 4 aces, and Keira Miller added 13 points and 1 ace. Izzy Weier contributed 11 points and made a big impact with 23 assists, setting up the team's offense. Maddie Gammon delivered 9 points and 2 aces, while Jalynn Delmotte added 8 points and 3 aces to round out the top servers. Defensively, Keira Miller led with 10 digs, followed by Maddie Gammon with 9 digs and Mikayla Fleming with 7. Maddie Gammon also led the attack with 7 kills, while Izzy Weier, Mallory Barker, Mikayla Fleming, and Kierstyn Stankevich contributed kills to the team’s success.
In a tough five-set match against North Huron on Thursday, the team fought hard but came up just short, with scores of 25-20, 19-25, 25-23, 14-25, and 13-15. Maddie Gammon led the team in serving with 27 points and 7 aces, while Kierstyn Stankevich added 19 points and 3 aces. Jalynn Demotte contributed 16 points and 4 aces. Izzy Weier, Mallory Barker, Keira Miller, and Mikayla Fleming also added points and digs, with Keira Miller making a major impact defensively with 47 digs. McKinley Gammon contributed 5 digs and 1 block, and Olivia Zellers added another block. On the attack, Mallory Barker led with 9 kills, followed by McKinley Gammon with 7, while Izzy Weier set up 36 assists to keep the offense running smoothly.
Varsity Football

On Friday, October 18th, 2024, the Dryden Varsity Football team played against Kingston. The final score was Dryden with 36 points and Kingston with 62 points.
On the offensive side, Gianni Coscione was 18/23 Passing for 393 Yards and 3 touchdowns, with no interceptions, 13 Rushes for 36 Yards and 2 touchdowns, 1 extra point run, 1 pass; Santiago Perales landed 13 Receptions for 291 Yards and 3 touchdowns, 1 Extra Point Reception; David Insley compass 4 Receptions for 93 Yards, 2 Rushes for 11 Yards; Sonny Coscione possessed 1 Reception for 9 Yards, 4 rushes for 8 Yards; and Owen Gall secured an extra point rush.
On the defensive side, Sonny Coscione chalked up 5 Solo tackles and 7 Assists; Callum Brown has in hand 4 Solos, 4 Assists; David Insley locked up 4 Solo, 4 Assists; Santiago Perales added 3 Solo, 2 Assists, and 1 interception; Gianni Coscione got hold of 3 Solo, 2 Assists; and Owen Gall was hands-on with 1 Assist.
Hunter Gall reflected, “Kingston is a very well coached football team that was much more physical than us up front. We were able to use our speed to generate some good offense, but were unable to get the stops we needed on the defensive side of the ball." The Dryden Varsity Football team Head Coach added, "A major improvement from last year, but we still have a lot of work to do. I'm proud of the way we have evolved in just one year."
Varsity Cross Country

On October 16, 2024, the Varsity Cross Country team triumphed at the Big Thumb Conference Red/Blue Division Championship Meet, securing 1st place and earning the title of League Champions!
Logan Romain led the team with an impressive time of 18:27.17, finishing in 1st place. He was followed closely by Levi Fitchett in 3rd (18:45.05) and Sean Finnigan in 4th (19:00.39). Other standout performances included Noah Hall (6th, 19:21.30), Nick Abromaitis (7th, 19:34.10), and Jaycen Roberts (11th, 19:53.39). Dylan Lasher (16th, 20:48.70), Brenden Peter (17th, 21:35.05), Tyler Roberts (20th, 21:52.55), and Matthew Livingston (30th, 23:37.55) also contributed to the team's success.
Cara Prusakiewicz led the girls with a 2nd place finish, clocking in at 21:07.01. Claire Wright followed closely in 4th place with a time of 22:05.99. Other notable performances included Caila Fitchett (7th, 23:36.99), Lilyana Lasher (9th, 24:20.49), and Ivy Brown (11th, 25:37.05). Penelope Spencer rounded out the team’s strong showing with a 14th place finish at 27:36.21.

Junior Varsity Volleyball

In the match against Mayville on October 15, 2024, the scores were 17-25, 19-25, and 3-15. Karley Phillips recorded one ace, while assists were distributed as follows: Brianna Snavely had two, Karley Phillips had two, Kayla Lapka had one, and Hailey Messerschmidt had one. In terms of attacks, Kayla Lapka had two, and Brianna Snavely had four. For digs, Brianna Snavely and Claire Wright each had six, Karley Phillips had four, Kayla Lapka had four, and Elaina Yatros and Hailey Messerschmidt each contributed one.
In the match against North Huron on October 17, 2024, the scores were 10-25 (loss), 25-10 (win), and 14-16 (loss). Karley Phillips recorded five assists, Kayla Lapka also had five, and Brianna Snavely contributed seven. For attacks, Karley Phillips had six, Elaina Yatros had two, Brianna Snavely had four, and Kayla Lapka had one. In the serving department, Karley Phillips achieved four aces, Kayla Lapka had five, and Brianna Snavely also recorded four. For digs, Karley Phillips had four, Claire Wright had two, and Brianna Snavely had one.
Junior High Cross Country

On Wednesday, October 16th, 2024, the Dryden JH Cross Country team went to Mayville to attend the Blue/Red BTC League Meet.
On the boys' side, Josiah Matson was flawless in 3rd place, 13:14.14 which is a new Personal Record; Sullivan Brown polished 12th place, 16:01.7 which is a new Personal Record; Jeffrey Taylor accomplished 17th place, with a time of 17:46.3; Jaxon Buffo earned 25th place, 19:22.67 which is a new Personal record!
On the girls’ side, Ella Gustner perfected 2nd place, 13:55.7 which is a new Personal Record; Elliniah Fitchett masterly got 14th place, 16:22.11.
On Saturday, October 19th, 2024, the Dryden JH Cross Country team competed at the Dryden Cardinal Classic Invite here at Dryden High School.
On the boys’ side, Josiah Matson executed 4th place, 12:29.96 which is a new Personal Record; Sullivan Brown achieved 21st place, 15:07.52 which is a new Personal Record; Jeffrey Taylor finished in 36th place, 16:25.33 which is a new Personal Record; Jaxon Buffo notched 39th place, 16:54.60 which is a new Personal Record!
On the girls’ side, Ella Gustner finished in 1st place, 13:03.18 which is a new Personal Record; Elliniah Fitchett landed in 8th place, 15:32.26 which is a new Personal Record!
