Read-a-Thon Recap
Erickson Elementary Read-a-Thon: A Month of Reading Success!
What an incredible month of reading we’ve had at Erickson Elementary! A huge thank you to our dedicated teacher team—Ms. Cooper, Mr. DeBoon, and Mr. Davies—who brought this exciting event to life.
With a fun snake theme inspired by the Lunar New Year, our school came together to celebrate reading in so many creative ways. We enjoyed a school-wide read-aloud of The Snake Mistake Mystery, tackled daily tongue twister challenges, welcomed surprise mystery readers, and logged thousands of reading minutes in friendly competitions both within and between classes. And, of course, we had a blast participating in the Great Snake Skin Challenge!
Together, our 186 students read an astonishing 132,249 minutes—that’s 2,204 hours or the equivalent of 91 straight days of reading! What an incredible achievement for our school community.
Thank you to our students, staff, and families for making this year’s Read-a-Thon such a success. Keep turning those pages, Erickson Eagles!
Spring Concert: March 13 & 14
Please join us on March 13th and/or 14th for our Spring Concert celebrating Canadian music and our student's talents. Class performances will start in the Gym at 1:15 each day.
Problem Solving Process
Erickson Elementary School Conflict Resolution Procedure
This procedure provides a general guideline for how we engage with students when addressing a situation that may violate the Erickson Elementary School Code of Conduct. Rooted in Restorative Justice best practices, this process is designed to give students a voice, foster ownership of their actions, and guide them toward meaningful resolution. We recognize that all kids make mistakes, and we expect them to; the important lesson lies in taking responsibility, repairing the harm, and committing to do better in the future. Our guiding principle is, “When we mess up, we fess up, and we dress up.”
Restorative Justice Key Values at Erickson Elementary
Respect: We honor each person and their perspective.
Responsibility: We take ownership of our actions and work to make things right.
Repair: We prioritize healing relationships and building trust.
Community: We work together to create a safe, supportive environment for everyone.

ERASE: Reporting Tool for Students
Have you seen or heard something that concerns you?
Is someone or something bothering you or your friends at school?
The erase|Report It tool lets you send a secure, anonymous and confidential message to your school or school district’s safe school coordinator, who will follow up on it right away. You do not have to provide your name unless you want to.
Messages are only monitored during your school's operational hours.
If you see or hear something, say something!
Visit the erase website to find resources for students, parents, and educators related to student safety, sexual orientation and gender identity, mental health and substance use.
Bussing Update
Please review the updated guidelines below:
- All requests for bussing changes should be submitted to clerical.ees@sd8.bc.ca by 1:00pm from the registered email of the student’s legal Parent or Guardian.
- Only in emergency situations will the office fulfill bus change requests beyond this deadline.
- Phone call requests for bus changes will be redirected to clerical.ees@sd8.bc.ca
Cell Phone Policy
Starting in September, in harmony with other Creston elementary schools, students will be encouraged to leave their personal electronic devices, like smartphones, smartwatches, and Bluetooth earphones, at home. We are committed to nurturing a warm and engaging learning environment where students can fully enjoy social interactions, build meaningful relationships, and express their creativity. By limiting the use of personal devices, we hope to create more opportunities for the kind of play and connection that make our school special. If a student brings a cell phone to school, it will be safely kept in the office and can be conveniently picked up by a parent.
Please review our updated Erickson Code of Conduct outlining this modification below.
Thank you for your understanding.
Important Allergy Alert: Nuts
A child in our Erickson Elementary community has a life-threatening allergy to nuts, which can result in an anaphylactic reaction—a severe and potentially fatal condition. Even minimal exposure to nut products could trigger this reaction, making it essential for us to create a safe environment for all students. The request does NOT include seeds like sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and flaxseed.
To ensure the safety of this student and others with allergies, we kindly request that all families and students refrain from bringing any products containing nuts or nut traces to school. This includes snacks, lunches, and treats for classroom celebrations.
Creston is a close-knit and caring community, and we know that with your support, we can help protect the well-being of all our students. Please carefully check food labels before sending items to school and speak with your child about the importance of avoiding nut products while at school.
If you have any questions or require additional information about allergy-safe foods, please feel free to reach out to our office at clerical.erickson@sd8.bc.ca or call (250) 428-2363.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding in making Erickson Elementary a safe and inclusive environment for everyone.
