Exciting Opportunity: Host an Exchange Student Dinner or Support with an Out of Uniform Pass
Our returning families know that each January we are fortunate to host exchange students from São Luiz, a school in Brusque, Brazil, sponsored by the Priests of the Sacred Heart. This year, we will welcome two teachers and eight students who will spend the month of January with us. During their time here, the students will join our middle school classes and share presentations about their school and country with all students. Since their summer vacation falls in December and January (due to their location in the southern hemisphere), they will be here during January. We are also excited to plan a trip to Brazil for our students next June during our summer vacation.
Both schools are committed to keeping the cost of this exchange as responsible as possible. Each school provides lodging, food, and some sightseeing activities for the exchange students. To help with the cost of the food, we are hosting two special events:
-
Out of Uniform Pass:
Students can purchase an out-of-uniform pass for $5.00. This pass will allow them to be out of uniform for the entire week of December 16. Students must still follow the out-of-uniform dress code. Please send $5.00 in cash with your child on Monday, December 16, in an envelope labeled with your child’s name. -
Home Dinner for Exchange Students:
The exchange students are eager to experience the culture of the southern United States and meet as many people as possible during their stay. One special way to connect with them is by hosting a dinner for the group. In the past, families have hosted these dinners in their homes or even worked together to sponsor a dinner. Some families have also provided a dinner that they bring to the student’s host house. If your family (or a group of families) is interested in hosting a dinner, please email me at bmartin@shsm.org with your preferred date between January 4 and January 24.
Above is a picture of this year’s group, and they are very excited to arrive and make new friends!
Thank you for your support and for helping make this exchange experience memorable for our students!
