Welcome To Week #23
Diamond Bar High School and the Walnut Valley Unified School District are proud to recognize Black History Month as we continue to provide our organization with resources to celebrate diversity while building equitable and inclusive practices for our community.
Dear Brahma Family,
Each February, we recognize and celebrate Black History Month—a time to honor the contributions of African Americans throughout history and reflect on their achievements. This month provides our students with an opportunity to learn about the individuals and events that have shaped our nation while also appreciating the diversity that makes our school community so special.
This week, we also celebrate National School Counseling Week, a time to recognize and express our gratitude to our GLCs. They go above and beyond the role of traditional school counselors, providing invaluable support to our students. While we highlight their dedication this week, we appreciate their hard work every single day of the year.
Over the past few months, our new marquee has been installed and was officially turned on last week. We are thrilled to introduce this valuable tool, which will enhance our ability to communicate important information with our community. Key staff members have been trained on the marquee’s software, and in the coming weeks, you’ll begin to see some of its exciting new features in action.
We extend our gratitude to the Brahma Foundation for funding a significant portion of the marquee, as well as to the Walnut Valley Unified School District and USB for their generous contributions. A special thank you to everyone who played a role in making this incredible addition to our school a reality.
Speaking of the Brahma Foundation, they are currently preparing for the upcoming Brahma Fashion Walk (see the flyer, below). This event will showcase Brahma spirit wear alongside stylish looks perfect for major spring events, including Prom and Graduation. The Brahma Foundation continues to support campus improvements, with recent contributions including new picnic tables for students, a new scorer’s table for the gym, and, of course, the new marquee.
Have a great week!
Sincerely,
David Hong
Principal

Seniors, FAFSA is open!
SENIORS, go online as soon as possible to fill out your Free Application forFederal Student Aid at https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa. Don’t wait until your parents’ tax return is ready – you’ll use the information from their 2022 tax return. Again, it’s best to get your FAFSA filled out as early as possible, and the F in FAFSA stands for free so if you’re ever on a website that asks for you to pay them money, you’re in the wrong place.
REMINDER: THE FAFSA IS NOT OPTIONAL! California Assembly Bill 132 was
signed into law last year and requires school districts to confirm SENIORS have completed the FAFSA or California Dream Act application (https://dream.csac.ca.gov/landing) before graduating. There is a way to opt-out of completing the FAFSA, and if that’s what you and your parents want to do, you’ll have to pick up that opt-out form from your GLC and return it in order to qualify for graduation. “Hey, man, why aren’t you going to graduation practice?” “Oh, I never filled out the FAFSA or the opt-out form. You can’t tell me what to do!” “Oh… um, good one. You’re really showing…someone… something.”
