Principal's Spotlight
What an amazing month it has been! Our Steeby Supercats have been working so hard to be great readers, writers, mathers, scientists, social citizens, artists, musicians, and athletes!! Their hard work continues to build their learning stamina and positive school experiences every single day. We are so proud of all of them!
We are excited to share that our fall assessments are coming to a close. Our teachers are now diving into the data to carefully analyze each student's performance. This process allows us to gain valuable insights into strengths, areas for growth, and instructional needs. By focusing on the results, we can ensure that all students are supported in their progress and equipped with the tools to succeed. We look forward to sharing those results with you at Parent Teacher Conferences October 8th and 10th. Your presence and involvement mean so much to us!
Looking forward to seeing so many of you on Wednesday, October 2nd for Donuts with Grownups! This is a wonderful opportunity for us to connect and share in the excitement of your student's journey here at Steeby! We hope you are just as excited and we are and can't wait to welcome you!
Thank you again for sharing your student with us.
Yours in education,
Karri Bailey

📣ANNOUNCEMENT 📣
*****NEW PICK UP PROCEDURE*****
Starting this month, students who are regular or consistent pick ups at the end of the day will be given TWO pick up tags for their pick up vehicles to display during the pick up process. This will be similar to Baker's pick up tags. An ideal place to display the tags would be attached to the passenger side sun visor that you can swing down to be seen. This can help the adults and students keep an eye on who belongs to what vehicle and keep the pick up line moving. It will also be very helpful in the event of inclement weather (pouring rain, thunder storms) when students have to wait inside the gym to be called out to their vehicles. Students who are randomly picks ups will have their end of day pick up notes and we will be able to match tag-less vehicles with those students. THANK YOU for your help to keep our pick up line safe and efficient! See examples below.

👀 Looking for Volunteers!
SuperCat Store Volunteers
Steeby Elementary is looking for volunteers for our School Supercat Store! Once a month, students get a chance to spend their supercat tickets that they earn for good behavior at our store. There are many different prizes that they get to choose from! We need parent and family volunteers to assist with helping students shop, counting their tickets, and setup/clean up. Please sign up for a day or time, we would love to have you! Any questions feel free to email Ms. M at millermadaje@waylandunion.org or Mrs. Bailey at baileyk@waylandunion.org
Shining on our Specials Classes!
Awesome Art
Second graders have been busy reviewing our elements of art to kick off the school year. They created some really cool lava lamps to review organic and geometric shapes. They painted organic shapes for the lava in the lamp. They used texture plates to make a colorful background and finally cut and glued it all together to make their own lava lamp! Groovy!
Third graders started off the year by drawing and painting a cactus. This project reviewed how to use our supplies and talked about lines, texture and color. Students had a great time putting their own creative twist into their cactus with the theme of STEEBY STICKS TOGETHER!

Media Moments
Happy October!
In media class students have been learning how to find books for the library on the computer. This is a skill that is new to second graders and a review for third graders. The library at Steeby uses the computer program Destiny Quest so students can locate books easily. Students have also enjoyed the problem solving games The Big Escape and Quest of Epic Proportions. Both educational games can be found on Information Place: https://sites.google.com/waylandunion.org/libraries/home
Two students were also chosen as Tech Wizards this month. Congratulations to Myla and Jameson!
Happy Reading and Learning!

Moved by Music
Greetings from the Steeby Music Room! During the month of September we have been reviewing music notes/rests that we know and melodic (solfege) words that we know. 2nd graders enjoyed playing the conga drums and 3rd graders enjoyed using the rhythm sticks. As the year progresses the students will get to explore more instruments. The 3rd graders also enjoyed moving to the song September by Earth, Wind and Fire. Both grades are learning and singing new songs. There were 2 Music Superstars this month: Anna DeWeerd and March Belanger.

School Day Schedule
Our school day schedule runs from 8:45am to 3:45pm daily. The half day schedule runs from 8:45am to 11:45am. Students are expected to be in class by 8:45am each day.
Pick Up & Drop Off Procedures
Morning Drop Off is from 8:35 to 8:45, with students needing breakfast entering at 8:35 and the other students lining up until 8:40 when classrooms open. Please DO NOT drop off students in the morning and drive away until a staff member appears at the door at 8:35. Drop off doors close at 8:45.
End of the day pick up is between 3:45 and 3:55. After 3:55, any late pick ups will be walked back to the office to await their pick up.
Morning drop off and afternoon pick up times are a very busy time. Safety and security are our number 1 priority. Please follow these guidelines for smooth transitions.
All students being dropped off in the morning or picked up at the end of the day must enter Steeby Elementary via E. Maple St. Traffic in the rear parking area follows a one way flow. Please do not let your student exit your vehicle until you reach the unloading zone in between the front of door #3 and the playground fence. To ensure safety and expedite the process, please prepare your child to unload while in the loop. Please do not park in the loop or pull out of the loop as this creates a danger to our students and staff.
We understand that schedules change and you student may need to be picked up early. All requests for end of day pick up must be made to the office NO LATER THAN 3:15pm. Requests made after this time may not be able to be accommodated.
Attendance
Students are expected to be in class by 8:45am each day. Students will be marked tardy if they arrive after this time. PLEASE NOTE: Students who arrive to school AFTER 9:00am are marked HALF DAY ABSENT.
Students are expected to complete the school day which ends are 3:45pm. If the need arises for a student to leave BEFORE 3:30pm, they will be marked HALF DAY ABSENT. Students who leave between 3:30pm and 3:45pm will be marked AFTERNOON TARDY.
If your student needs to miss school because of illness, or necessary appointment, please contact the office at (269) 792-2281. If you call outside of normal business hours there will be an option to leave a message. If we don't hear from you, your student will be marked unknown and you will receive a follow-up call from the school.
Important Forms
Flu Shot Clinic Forms
Flu shot letters and consent forms were sent home in September. If you need another copy sent home with your student, please request from the office. They need the form to participate in the clinic on October 10. Thank you!
