Monday, May 8th
This week is National Teacher Appreciation Week! Our AMAZING Caregiver Alliance made sure that teachers felt special today with a lovely breakfast awaiting our staff. Thank you to the many individuals in our community that helped us feel so loved this morning!
This week will conclude our state COGNIA testing across our school. Students in Grades 5 and 8 will be completing the science assessment the next two days and then on Thursday will be the last seated test for our Gators. Being a new state test, we have had to be flexible as we are learning more and more about how the system works. A huge thank you to Lauren Chabot and Amy Kimball for their support in helping our teachers and students navigate this new frontier of testing. Of course, ALL of our students should also be commended on their hard work, flexibility and diligence during this testing window.

Music Composition
Music-COMP presented the world premiere of 23 new student compositions in their Opus 37 concert on Tuesday, May 2nd. Student composers in grades 3-12 and professional musicians rehearsed throughout the day and performed these new works. MSMS's Rowan Goldblatt (grade 6) was selected to have his work performed by some of Vermont's most incredible professional musicians! Congrats, Rowan!
French Poetry
The Vermont Foreign Language Association recently announced the results of the first ever Lost in Translation Poetry Event. Over 60 registered participants from across the state in grades 4-12 participated. Main Street Middle School's French students swept the podium! Bravo to three of our amazing GATORS: Jay Kords, 1st Place, Cherylanne Magiera, 2nd Place, and Phoebe Bakeman, 3rd Place!
Earth Day Essay Challenge: Raffle Winner
Our sixth grade students participated in the Vermont Attorney General's Earth Day Essay Challenge. Attorney General Charity Clark drew Noah Sincyr's name! Our entire sixth grade will get to welcome AG Clark tomorrow, Tuesday, May 9th to Main Street Middle School where they will get to talk with the AG about their essays and hear a presentation about the environmental work happening at the Environmental Unit! Way to go, Gators!

MSMS Spring Concert is COMING!
Orchestra students should arrive at 5:30pm and band students should arrive at 5:45 for warmup and tuning. Concert dress is a formal white dress shirt/blouse and black pants/skirt/shoes.
Parents interested in chaperoning students at the concert should contact Mrs. Goldblatt (hilaryo@mpsvt.org) or Mr. Krietz (kirkk@mpsvt.org). We are looking for a few volunteers with level 3 clearance to supervise students in our staging area prior to their performance.

Think Small!
Think about host family recruitment in small “bite-size” pieces.
What small town are you going to focus on?
What individual student do you want to place?
What small event can you set up a table?
What 3 people in your social circles you want to reach out to ask to host?
What other small ideas do you have?
Cast a small net, and let’s see what we can catch!
