Message from Principal Haugens
During this season of THANKS DuJardin School is so grateful for the wonderful students and families that we are able to serve on a daily basis. Our hope this holiday season is that everyone stays safe and healthy. Enjoy the holiday season with your family & friends! There will be no school for students all next week. As a reminder, tomorrow is an Early Release Day. Students will be dismissed at 1:40 pm.
Arrival & Dismissal: As we move into the winter months, more students will be dropped off and picked up at DuJardin. We ask parents to be patient as we might encounter longer lines during arrival and dismissal.
Morning Arrival Tips:
- Pull as far up as possible along the curb to ensure as many parents as possible can drop off students.
- Have your student ready with all school supplies (backpack, mask, & lunch) before stopping to drop them off in the morning.
- Have students exit from the passenger side of the car, along the curb.
- Parents should stay in their vehicles. Do not get out of the vehicle to assist your student unless it is absolutely necessary. At this point in the school year, all students, including our kindergarten students, should be able to get out of the car unassisted.
- Follow the directions of the staff members in the parking lot attempting to move cars to the open spaces along the curb.
- DO NOT leave your car unattended at any time in the drive thru lane in order to pick up your child.
- TURN RIGHT out of the parking lot onto Euclid Ave. Left hand turns onto Euclid Ave are prohibited during arrival times.
Afternoon Dismissal Tips:
- Pull as far up as possible along the curb to ensure as many parents as possible can pick up students.
- Pick your child up after the rush of dismissal; try arriving at 3:35 instead of waiting in a long line of cars from 3:20-3:35.
- Park your car on Euclid Ct., Tee St., or Freeport and walk to the front entrance to greet your child at dismissal. Parking on either side of Euclid Ave. is illegal (no parking signs are posted).
- Follow the directions of the staff members in the parking lot attempting to move cars to the open spaces along the curb.
- DO NOT leave your car unattended at any time in the drive thru lane in order to pick up your child.
- TURN RIGHT out of the parking lot onto Euclid Ave. Left hand turns onto Euclid Ave are prohibited during dismissall times.
A reminder to parents that students will be lining up outdoors and recess will take place outside unless the temperature drops below 10 degrees Fahrenheit (including the wind chill). Students are allowed to play in the snow if they are properly dressed in their winter gear, which includes a winter jacket, snow pants, hat, gloves and boots.
Early Release Day: There is an Early Release day TOMORROW. Students in first - fifth grade will be dismissed at 1:40 pm.
End of Trimester: The end of the first trimester is Friday, November 18, 2022. Report cards will be emailed to parents on Friday, December 9, 2022.
Spirit Day: Our next Spirit Day is Tomorrow. Be BOLD and wear BLACK & GOLD.
Parent-Teacher Conferences: Parent-Teacher Conferences will be taking place over the next couple of weeks. If you have questions about scheduling a conference or need assistance, please reach out to the classroom teacher or front office at 630-894-9200. Click here to sign up for a conference.
Lost & Found: We ask that parents check out our lost and found table when visiting for Parent-Teacher Conferences. We have a lot of items currently lost and need to be found. All lost & found items will be donated to a local charity in December.

Lead Like a Jaguar
At DuJardin, we want students to become leaders who model a positive attitude (growth mindset), set and achieve positive goals, understand and manage emotions, show empathy for others, and make responsible decisions (solve problems). Teachers will be using the Second Step curriculum & other resources to help ensure our students #LeadLikeJaguars.
Focus for October 11th - December 12th: Emotional Management: Students learn how to build their emotion vocabularies, practice identifying their own and others’ emotions, and recognize the importance of labeling and managing emotions.
Click here to view our #LeadLikeAJaguar focus for this week. This is an optional lesson.

Message from Nurse Mills
Please contact the nurse at lmills@sd13.org if your child suffers from allergies, asthma or any other health issue. We do have events where food may be available to students. The school needs to be aware of food allergies to prevent and respond to any reaction. Your communication will help us better support your children.
If you chose to have your child tested for COVID while here at school a NEW consent form for this year must be filled out. Consent Form for Minor

Connection Card Survey: DuJardin administered a Connection Card Survey to all students, kindergarten - fifth grade during the week of September 26th. The questions on the survey included:
Do you have at least one friend?
Is there an adult in the building that you trust?
Do you feel like you belong?
What do you like about DuJardin? (2nd-5th grade)
What would make DuJardin better? (2nd-5th grade)
What would you like your classroom teacher or the school to know about you? (2nd-5th grade)
Below are results from the survey. Staff have started to review results and discuss ways we can improve and ensure DuJardin is a school where all students feel valued & appreciated.

Assessment Data - Student Progress
On the District Website parents can review district MAP Assessment Data from the 2021-2022 school year. By visiting the Illinois School Report Card Website parents can review school and district 3rd-5th grade data in regards to the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR), state assessment. After reviewing the data, you will find that DuJardin Elementary students consistently perform better than the national/state average.
